My summer mixes are mixes that include tons of soulful tunes that I love. I love a wide range of music, so there's soul, funk, hip hop, house and disco in here :) A lot of these songs are favorites of mine because of their positive message and ultimately, their healing qualities. In this uncertain time in my country I am more than happy to speak out about injustices and seek to better my own community. However, sometimes, we need songs to take us on a spiritual journey so that we can remember that though there is evil in the world, it does not have to define us. In a spiritual sense, we can live without that which we're opposed to defining our being; we can be free there.

Some of the songs in this mix speak about current realities (even though they were made 40 years ago)and some seek to deliver a message of higher understanding of our life here on earth. I'll leave you with Lonnie LIston Smith's line from the last song in this mix, Expansions:
"Expand your mind, to understand, we all must live in peace."
