"I've been reflecting on a lot of the things that helped me make Loud City Song, and in addition to that, I've been on tour - constantly on the move from one strange place to another very quickly, sitting in a hot van for hours and then jumping out to perform suddenly, getting delirious, not sleeping, etc. We've also been playing shows at a lot of churches, or medieval church ruins, and sacred spaces that reflect so much acoustically that it is inviting to the people as a place for things to be quickly and easily shared - as one musician we played a show with in a church said: "You barely have to do anything!" - Julia

NTS Summer Season: Julia Holter

All good things must come to an end as the saying goes, so as we reach the magic number 100, this will be the final episode of the Lazy Days Podcast (as we know it). I’ve enjoyed doing this show immensely since 2008. It’s been a great platform to share music I love and will survive like a snapshot in time through the various phases and cycles that music go through and hopefully remain relevant.

It wasn’t always easy to find the time to do this show. I remember when I started, having to burn cds from my initial selection, then picking up my 2 CDJs (100 and 200) from a box in the corner of my studio, all this time keeping true to mixing my show live rather than using any software such as Ableton.

In the process of doing this show, I also met my designer for Lazy Days — Robert Vidaure, back then known as Nerdski. I found him online because he posted my podcast on his blog with his own art and I loved it. He then went on to design almost all the Podcast artwork and a good part of the Lazy Days catalog from that moment. So big thanks to Robert! Your art and work ethics are appreciated beyond words!

Along the way, the show was picked up by Pioneer DJ who was syndicated it through Ibiza Sonica and a few other one off syndications on various show around the world. But the longest lasting collaboration is of course with Music Is My Sanctuary. I want to extend a special thanks to my friend Alexis (DJ Lexis) for his hard work, I will continue to collaborate with MIMS on various project like Tribute Mixes.

Thanks to all the listeners for listening to my humble “monthly” mixtape. To all the people who took time to tell me how much they loved the show every month, you were the fuel that kept me going. But don’t worry, I’ll be back. I’m currently re-evaluating the concept and format to come back with another show at some point next year.

For the second hour we welcome Gilles Peterson in the slot for the 25th Anniversary of Solid Steel, a DJ who (along with Coldcut) also presented a show in the 90's on Kiss FM. For this mix he's layed down a 'Brit Funk 1977 - 1982' mix, returning to a period of music that was an important part of his life growing up. Music from independent labels, some run by record shops, like the first track by Cache on Groove Records. This is followed by the classic 'Trip to your mind' by Hudson People, a record that a 15 year old Gilles Peterson caught from them in the crowd at a Purley all-dayer. Here we have a DJ/Producer well respected for his contribution to House and Disco, impeccable edits and dance floor tunes. But this episode of Bside will take us on a trip down memory lane, back to his soulful roots and the influences that ultimately define his sound.

Plying his trade as DJ and record collector in Madrid, Javi would soon share his joyful music with the world. From New York to Mexico City, from Berlin to Cairo, dance floors felt the boogie funk of Javi Frias.

In the last few years Javi has also gained notoriety as a producer in his own right, releasing on an array of record labels ( Tropical Disco Records, Giant Cuts, Midnight Riot etc. ) before starting his own in 2017. Night Shift Records houses a discography of his own club ready disco edits as well as mentionable contributions from Chassé and Never Dull.
