L'Invasor Una Mattina Bella (disquiet0535)

Tough assignment… This could have being called horror vacui since I couldn’t avoid filling with delay effects and adding some free form pianoforte arpeggios to escape that emptiness of 10bpm. I need to talk about this to my psychotherapist :slight_smile:

Tried playing it at 12x speed after recording it and doesn’t sound techno at all, so I guess it doesn’t fit the assignment very well. I am posting it anyway since at least it is at 10BPM.

Ogni 6 Secondi (disquiet0541)

When I first read this week’s call I wanted to elaborate on my aesthetic assumptions as Ossimuratore that verbal communication is corrupted music.

I was a bit struggling until I listened to @ostacoli-sonori’s INTRUSIONS. This made me realize something odd about my musical education: as many italian kids grown up in the seventies and eighties I didn’t study english until middle school, so I used to listen to a lot of foreign pop and rock music without understanding a word of the lyrics.

In this track I use an exerpt from a cult italian movie called Amici Miei where Conte Mascetti gives what has been since then popularized in Italy as supercazzola (i.e. gimmerick italian used to persuade someone).

The idea is that gimmerick language, by dropping its semantic transport function, can retain musical significance.

Vocazione (disquiet0602)

I’ve felt quite a strong horror vacui discomfort trying to fulfill this week exercise. I’ve tried with a sparse very basic triadic harmonic theme, preceded and followed by an off-tempo pattern that obeys the 1/3 rule by spreading the silence irregularly throught the bars.

A small tribute to Hemingway's masterpiece The Old Man and the Sea. An intro depicts the drama of a fisherman not caughting a fish for 84 days. The melodic pianoforte theme is Santiago going out  anyway (00:50), then the encounter with the marlin (from around 1:33 to 2:30), then the shark arrival. Finally (from 3:09) Santiago coming back.
