Following on from how much we enjoyed putting out the recent Fear of Men release, we have decided to make the flexizine (a 7” flexidisc record accompanied by a 20 page zine) a quarterly fixture. With no further ado, it gives us great pleasure to introduce issue 2. The new EP from Bournemouth based 5 piece The Death of Pop.

Made up of three brothers and two cousins, The Death of Pop produce the sort of well-polished sound you’d expect from a tight knit family unit. We have long admired their jangley shoegaze from afar, but it was only when they sent us a lovely cassette demo did we finally make acquaintance. Opening track ‘Whenever’ picks up where excellent previous single ‘Sun in my Eyes’ left off. Dueling guitars, blissful summery melodies and a magic carpet ride of fuzz and distortion.

Here is Mirage, track two on the EP and the track which we have committed to vinyl. Once again it's a shoegazing stunner whilst the EP’s further three tracks are testament to The Death of Pop’s ability to consistently craft jangle pop masterpieces that engulf you in a glowing warmth.

As previously mentioned, the EP is set to be released on a lovely blue transparent 7” flexidisc accompanied by a 20 page magazine. The flexidisc will feature the sub-6-minute drones of track 2 Mirage and a download code for the full EP will be included with the magazine. We have elected to release music in this format as we were getting a bit frustrated with the standard 7” release and realised we could be giving you a bit more for your money.

The release is ltd to 250 copies and set to be released on the 4th August. You can pre-order your copy from our shop right now.

Beyond Now was written from a place where it feels as if we can only look into the world through a wall of glass. As if, existing within a vacuum, we feel prevented from moving on from the past to
be fully present in the now and striving for a future that we cannot reach. The main idea for Beyond Now emerged during a collaborative Songwriting session with Lucie, Hannes and Paul. Lucie had just emerged from an unhealthy relationship and wrote the lyrics
from this feeling of being stuck in the gaps between past, present and future.

Beyond Now

Sleeptalk is about Insomnia. It tells a story of how we desperately try to silence the sound of blood rushing through our veins and thoughts racing through our heads by turning to "coyotes" - the sleeping pills we take. They claim to help us reach a quiet place. Throughout the song we learn that the only way to reach silence is to surrender to a loss of control, which will ultimately help to close the water lock on those racing rapids of thoughts.

Sleeptalk

We spent two years in Berlin’s Paul Lincke Studio, recording our most refined record to date: About Time which was released in July 2020. An introspective musical journey, the first half of the album consists of five distinctive songs, starting out with the Beatles-esque piano ballad We Can Do It Again, then going from groovy to heavy before ending with the enigmatic Nights of Aphelion. On the second half, songwriting and arrangement become more meandering and experimental before the stripped down title track draws a poignant conclusion to the album.
The underlying theme of About Time is the relentless passing of time and how we all deal with it; remembering, forgetting and regretting, melancholy and nostalgia.

Osta Love weave diverse influences into their very own style of Artrock, always adding a dose of melancholic dreamscape to their unique sound, that touches both hearts and heads.


Osta Love are Tobias Geberth and Leon Ackermann who started the band after moving to Berlin in 2010. In 2013 they released their debut Good Morning Dystopia, an epic concept album about urban life in the 21th century. The band cut their teeth playing in clubs around Berlin and support shows for bands like Boy & Bear and The Pineapple Thief.
Osta Love really found their voice on the stylistically diverse, yet tonally consistent second album The Isle of Dogs which has been called “a brilliant tightrope walk between catchiness and mystery” (Eclipsed) and ”for the last remaining connoisseurs, incredibly original” (Streetclip.tv).

Osta Love set out to compose memorable songs that stay surprising and interesting even after repeated listening, adding a certain musical complexity to the songs without over-complicating them - qualities they admire in bands like Pink Floyd, Steely Dan and The Beatles, probably the three acts that influenced them most.
