Next up on @ryan-elliott Faith Beat imprint is Detroit-based DJ, label owner, producer, and promoter Max Watts. The Dusk EP is an excellent showcase of the producer’s hardware-focussed brand of dance music and is accompanied by a remix from fellow Tennessee native Alex Falk.

Multidisciplinary artist and queer agitator Valley Dolly is a long time friend and light designer to Bassiani as well as a member of the locally-based Hydrash collective. An eager student of the heady nights of New York underground culture, in their sound there’s an undeniable debt to the house music of that time and place, and the many constituent queer and trans faces that lit the way for so many who came after. By extension Valley Dolly, who also works under the alias Svecki*, uses their skills and context to probe contemporary inequalities, question gender paradigms and deliver a radical critique of the same in the form of perky and silver-toned beats. Their work also alludes to a wider palette of personal inspirations, everything from the quotidian rituals of Tbilisi life to video games and horror films. All of it comes together in a bespoke and brightly coloured house sound that radiates joy and positivity. Savvy rhythms that bounce along at steady pace, melodies that seduce and blaze a trail from start to closing track with one simple goal set in their sights, sharing that feeling of love and inclusivity. Bassiani Podcast 228 kicks off the heavy burden of patriarchal culture with a wink and a smile and sets its ablaze with equal zeal, an hour of breezy tunes from a cherished member of the Georgian scene, and here's hoping there’ll be many more to come.

Andre Kronerts seminal EXU EP gets a comprehensive rework from some of the most outstanding on the scene. Tense and sinister new cuts from Kronert introduce both sides of the release, whilst the label calls upon remixes from Berlin mainstays Efdemin and Ed Davenport, as well as Hollands finest export Juan Sanchez, plus Stockholm LTD label boss Par Grindvik alongside fellow Swede Peder Mannerfelt.

Retaining the slurred vocal of the original, Efdemin layers thundering effects over chasmic bass in his mix of Into The Zone, which saw heavy rotation last year. Meanwhile Davenport brings a wild yet streamlined intensity to C.O.D.E.2.
Side B sees Grindvik team up with Mannerfelt to provide a joint interpretation of Into The Zone, which they manipulate into a peak-time epic, with a soaring melody over hammering toms. Finally, Juan Sanchez channels funk through Roll The Dice with a twitchy, groove-laden rework.

The spirit of EXU is made physical once again via 12 inches and 27 minutes of wax.

This record is the result of an undeniable desire to uncover a once lost and forgotten gem from beyond the dust. To recover the magic underneath, that has never grown nor subsided and doesn’t belong to anything but itself. A love story between two music labels that found each other in this blissful journey, Lossless and Something Happening Somewhere are here to presents the next chapter in their findings. 
Uzoamaka is an original track by King Britt from 2002, that still remains as fresh and uplifting as it was 15 years ago. Nuno dos Santos (SoHaSo) has been in love with the sonic narrative since it was released, but felt the urge to bring the transformative beauty to a wider audience. In an attempt to recover the original, the original master and pre-master turned out to be lost by the waves of time. Calyx mastering have remastered the music straight from vinyl, keeping the raw charm of the original but giving it a sonic facelift to fit with modern standards, also making it available in the digital format for the first time since it’s release.

The original by King Britt is an ode to the ritual of dance music in it’s purest form. With vocals panning across the stereo field that preach ‘Sing, dance, be, free to dance’, it resonates with the primordial human playfulness, joy and expression in all of us. Teasing with a melodic bassline, almost reaching twelve minutes running time, it’s a modern hymn that never fails to mesmerize and bring people’s spirit together.
Besides remastering the original, it gave the opportunity to invite other artists to retell the story. This time the mighty Dixon gives the original track an update for modern dance floors. Pushing the groove to the foreground, adding some extra percussion and drive while letting the choir guide you to a monumental break in which the chord suspends in the air. “Free to… Free to… Free to…”

Nuno dos Santos has used his magic touch for a short beat edit, which focusses the whole affair on the groove even more. A powerful tool to add some impact to tracks or to break up an otherwise repetitious dj set. Mathias Schober is back under his SB alias, carefully tightening and shortening the original version from 2002 with his edit to create a version that celebrates the quality of the elements. Pushing and pulling, enhancing the entrancing effect of the musical soul.
