Born out of distaste for the current trend of excessively hard and fast techno, this collaboration between Berlin based Roman Lindau and Fossil Archive boss Roberto from London, seeks to bring the groove and soul back into Techno.

After back to back sets at the likes of fabric in London, Tresor in Berlin and Culture Box in Copenhagen, the connection between these two artists was firmly cemented. This lead to their first studio collaboration ‘Nerinea Trinodosa’ which appeared on Fossil Archive 006 in 2017. The studio process felt very natural, with each artist assuming different roles. Their latest effort ‘Path to Enchantment’ comes with 4 new fresh tracks designed to tell a story by both of these exciting artists on Fossil Archive.

The result of a short creative burst during a grim British winter, Cape Cira explores music as escapism, comprising a series of lush, warm vignettes that demonstrate music’s unique transportive power.

Cape Cira takes place in a sensuous sonic world between the natural and digital realms: FM synthesisers mimic acoustic instruments, tuned percussion and bird song; and found sounds and field recordings are processed with a hyperreal sheen.

In contrast to his clubbier productions, Cape Cira sees K-LONE explore the full melodic and textural potentials of his sound, drawing influence from ambient, fourth world, and modern classical music to create a work more closely related to the outputs of SND, Jon Hassell, Burnt Friedman, or - more recently - Don’t DJ and Visible Cloaks.

Following 2019’s ‘New Atlantis’ LP under his experimental techno alias @Efdemin, Phillip Sollmann’s ‘Monophonie’ is a project dedicated to uniting different strands of utopian music. His approach: combining and recontextualizing rare historical instruments of sonic research of Hermann von Helmholtz (19th century) with the self-designed, microtonal instruments of Harry Partch and metal sound sculptures of Harry Bertoia.

The result is a psychedelic investigation into just intonation – alternative tuning systems that create unique sets of harmonics not found in conventional scales. ‘Monophonie’ recasts these sounds into new rhythmic environments where epic kosmische, polyrhythms, acoustic techno and microtonal glow are interwoven into a rare music.

Over nine tracks, the album explores multiple forms of minimalism, from unwavering repetition to paired-down chords and sparse sonic environments. But it also seeks to expand the sound spectrum of Partch’s custom built organs and melodic percussion instruments as well as Bertoia’s sonambient singing metal rods into an atmospheric otherworldliness.

‘Monophonie’ was first composed in 2016 and premiered at Berlin’s Volksbühne theatre in 2017, before it went on to the renowned Ruhrtriennale and Kampnagel in Hamburg. It was performed by one of Germany’s premier neue musik collectives Ensemble @Musikfabrik together with Sollmann himself on von Helmholtz’s original double siren, with set design by Michael Kleine and wardrobe by Peter Kisur of Honeysuckle Company.

Global Vibe Radio 216 Feat. Linn Elisabet (Acts Of Rebellion)

In the current episode of the Telekom Electronic Beats podcast, former TEB editor-in-chief Derek Opperman talks to director and photographer Vincent Haycock, who has been involved in projects with Paul McCartney, Johnny Depp, Florence and the Machine and Lana Del Rey, among others. Now the 41-year-old Californian is releasing the film on the Gen-Z initiative #whatwedonext together with Billie Eilish and Deutsche Telekom. In his opinion, all generations can learn a lot from each other in their diversity, since they all grew up under very different conditions. While the young digital natives were born with social media as a matter of course, he spent his childhood without the Internet and networked technologies. In an interview, he reveals that in his school days, punk rock was his personal salvation from numerous pitfalls of the small town. The almost brutal emotionality that unfolds in punk culture continues to influence his artistic work and his life, which has hardly followed any precise paths, to this day. Besides working with numerous celebrities, he regularly casts people on the street for his works. When creating his films and music videos, Haycock likes to dive deep into the real life and emotional world of his protagonists and thus create unique images. Corona has completely turned the advertising and music film industry, in which he works very successfully, upside down. In this sense, he also talks about his individual privileges and how he would like to behave in order to positively influence the future. The fact that the world is currently going through phases of enormous pain in many places occupies him on the one hand, but on the other hand he also looks at the potential of many good developments and how we can all internalize them together.
