Born in the dark streets of Cairo, grown to the unforgettable forests of Santa Esmeralda, spending its teen years in Bombay and Tangier markets, mature into the deep spacey Jungle of Ghana we proudly present you a new label from the land of the pyramids: SHANGO RECORDS invites you to an unheard world music psychedelic trip: like through a colorful kaleidoscope we will melt down Indian and Pakistani Vibes, Arab-Tek and Oriental groovy vibes, Afro-Beat rhythms n' pieces, Cumbia Tropicana flavors and cosmic Ghetto-Latin vibes into forbidden sounds of frenzied electronic dancefloor rituals. Outside traditional paths these driving grooves and polyphonic structures take the adventure seeking dancer to Dionysian highs and places never been before.

The Huli are believed to have laid down roots in Papua New Guinea as far back as 45,000 years ago. Most of the Huli people are from the town of Tari, and many still live according to the traditional ways. “The Huli men are famous for their unique custom of creating and wearing impressive wigs decorated with feathers. They also wear bright facial paint in red, yellow and white — colors originally chosen to strike fear into their enemy in times of conflict. Nowadays, they usually wear them to sing and dance.”. The so-called Wigmen make their wigs out of their own hair and weave them with feathers from the island’s 700 bird species. Each feather carries its own symbolic meaning (such as strength and courage). “The forest in which we live is essential to us. It provides for all our needs, it is sacred, and I would do anything in my power to protect it,” writes Mundiya Kepanga, a 53-year-old Huli Wigman, “I hope that by helping people to better understand my culture, they will also respect our environment.”                                                                                                                    This is the new Shango Records compilation entitled “A Wigmen Town Called Tari”. As the world is shrinking into a pocket sized device that is able to control everything - MUTA and Saive used that digital playground to create something very calm and organic. We find it interesting to observe how the music gets slower and softer as life gets insanely fast paced. 

MUTA recorded his vocals in the middle of the jungle. These vocals bring the natural beauty and calmness to the song, whereas Saive combined the whole thing with stoic grooves and subtle sounds. This collaboration turned out as a big surprise for everybody involved and we are very excited to set this little song free today.

The drum, the mythical dance, and the help of those present at this worship (their belief in the shaman)-"Ongo" is trance, the state of excitement, accompanied by dances and "Kamlanié", rambling mumbling and incantation of the spirits.

To become a shaman, a man must inherit this gift from one of his ancestors. It is called "Utkha". From the root and essence of the Shaman, the spirits themselves come to the one they have chosen. An innate skill passed down from heavenly beings and then ancestors to shamans in order to exercise their mystical gift."

We  would like to thank all the artists who contributed to this project which is very dear to us. 

This compilation is the result of a long collaboration, artistic exchanges and moreover passion for music with exceptional producers who have blown their inspiration and interpretation into the universe of O'Utkha.
