FBN is so gentle, vocally, you almost get a sweet vibe from the tune. It is based on an almost-romantic promise Tilly once made, to be “yours forever but nevermore”, to love while not able to, to give everything but actually not having anything to give. That promise, later bent and colored by a soul-shattering argument, went in and out, creating a song full of intimacy but also harsh metafors, devotion as well as violence. The song still makes us wince every time we play it, the hard time is so vivid to us, mirrored in the lyrics that are so dual-edged.

Tilly (from &Tilly) and Ian (Lorta) connected in the most common while unexpected way – through music. Ian stumbled across Tilly’s track Leaving and felt inspired to reach out about remixing it. Although Tilly was completely new to remixing and everything around it, her curiosity got the better of her. She’s the kind of artist (and person) who prefers to dive in and explore rather than overthink.

The result? A remix that’s ~40% melodic techno, ~40% UK Garage, and a mix of electro, synthpop & indie electronica – all tied together by Tilly’s signature dreamy, haunting vocals. Short and punchy, dark yet danceable, Lorta’s remix of Leaving mirrors &Tilly’s ethos: straddling genres and defying expectations while leaning towards the dark, catchy side of the (force) spectrum.

Maybe I'll Stay in a Different Shadow uses actual snippets from a very grave, very real argument – still making us wince at lyrics that hit so close to home (but also grateful that something so negative could lead to something entirely new). Unusually, the song starts with a chorus. Short and sharp, with a shadowy edge, MISIADS isn’t just a song — it’s the beginning of a longer story about leaving, searching, and most of all, feeling lost and uncertain about where one belongs, what should be the next step.

Do you know that incredibly deep fear of being – or ending up – alone? Well, Please is that moment when you realize you might stay alone after all you’ve done (or didn’t do). It’s pleading for the other person to stay, even promising – maybe only half-truthfully – that you’ll be better, you’ll say whatever they want to hear, just to… keep them there, with you.

It’s bitter and sticky, but also gentle like a lullaby. And so completely true.

After releasing Come With Me in 2022 (the track ramassing 100K streams since then), Horseshoes teamed up with &Tilly once again to “continue the story” – adding another chapter to their musical love story the artists invited you to with the first track. This time, we’re further along in the relationship, in the moment where the (fictional) characters are owning up to mistakes, facing the messiness, and accepting the kind of love that grows with time.

Apparition is full of metaphors, subtle nudges, and those little moments of blame we all move through in a relationship. It’s an instrumentally rich, emotionally honest track – layered with dreamy ooohs and a beautiful contrast between the two voices.

Rooted in Americana and country folk, complete with real banjo, fiddle, and live drums by Robby Sinclair (Chet Faker, Vampire Weekend, Natasha Bedingfield, The War on Drugs & many more), the song also breathes in indie folk notes, bringing a sound that feels both gentle and deep. Apparition will appear in the golden light of September – and hopefully enchant your heart with its gentle truth and melodic depth.
