NYX RITUAL XLI - REGIS

For the 10th Monday Off release, label boss Mary Yuzovskaya curates four hypnotic cuts from a host of top tier techno talent.
Leading the A-side is ‘Schaefer Conclave’, a collaboration between Mary Yuzovskaya and NYC-based Twice As Proper events founder Craft. With pulsating low end, evolving pads, and delicate percussion, the duo have created an exceptional cut of deep techno. Following is Italian DJ/producer Ruhig’s ‘A Perfect Vacuum’, eschewing 4/4 patterns for rumbling syncopation and trippy synthesis throughout.
On the flip, Yuzovskaya goes solo with ‘Panic Season’, turning in a masterfully hypnotic track taking in dense percussions, eerie tones, and engulfing atmospherics. Rounding out the release, Monday Off regular and Polish DJ/producer Blazej Malinowski delivers ‘Mist’, a driving and propulsive track with shimmering production, sending listeners into a deeply satisfying musical wormhole.

Back in 2009, Italian DJ and producer Luca Mortellaro - better known simply as Lucy - established the Stroboscopic Artefacts label. And over the last 14 years, the imprint has nurtured a reputation for its line-blurring electronic abstraction and dancefloor experimentation, releasing influential material by artists like Speedy J, Kangding Ray, Donato Dozzy, Paula Temple, Rrose, Ben Klock, Wanton Witch, and of course Lucy themselves. Naturally following the label's ten year threshold, the pandemic pause and Mortellaro's subsequent artistic re-evaluation, OTHER FACTS emerges as a fresh entity, fully unplugged from Stroboscopic Artefacts' dancefloor mainframe, with its gaze pointed on widescreen cinematic sound design and audio-visual art.

To inaugurate the label comes the sophomore album from masked, anonymous artist Roots In Heaven, following their acclaimed 2017 opus "Petites Madeleines". That debut took its conceptual cues from Proust's seven-volume masterpiece "À la recherche du temps perdu", and while "Edge of Non Compliance" has no such literary focus, it's no less layered or philosophically rigorous. In fact it's the ideal vehicle to launch OTHER FACTS: an album that's rich, suggestive and delicately textured, that proposes a visual accompaniment without overstating its motivation.

This mix is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, or "Forest Bathing". I find this to be such a beautiful concept. It is something that has helped me a lot in my life. There is also a rich and deep Irish mythology surrounding forests and their magical inhabitants. The mix taps into this ancient mysticism as it takes us deeper and deeper into the woods.

Following EOMAC’s debut album “Spectre” on Killekill, released earlier this year, here come remixes of the three most outstanding tracks of the album.
TOMMY FOUR SEVEN picked the title track SPECTRE, taking away some of the dense texture of the original, speeding it up a bit and adding some straight-forward percussion to turn the original into a big anthem for the mellow moments on the dancefloor.
Lars Stöwe aka Anstam is using his ANNO STAMM-alias to rip out the distorted bassline of the grimey SU RIDDIM and add some playful bassline variations and some serious 808 business to it to turn it into a peaktime banger with lots of chicago flavour.
AnD do what they do best and turn SHELL OF DARK into a half-tempo stomper that after a while breaks up to a devastating weapon of distorted drums and melodies.

Hot on the heels of his preliminary EP on Stroboscopic Artefacts, ‘Embryo’, which paved the way to the present album, and two years after the landing of his 2016-released inaugural LP, ‘Montagne Trasparenti’, Mannequin helmsman Alessandro Adriani returns with his highly anticipated full-length debut for SA, ‘Morphic Dreams’. Throughout eleven cuts painstakingly executed but lacking not an iota of the fresh, spontaneous oomph that made his sound stand out of the crowd of techno producers to have emerged over the past decade, Adriani lays the foundations to a suspended sound imaginarium, governed by its own rules and principles of gravity. 
 
Revolving around the notions of sublimation and quest for inner balance, ‘Morphic Dreams’ is comprised of four distinct sequences, conceived and designed as reflections of four mental states, each of them linked to the four alchemical elements – i.e. Water, Earth, Air and Fire – here represented by the A, B, C and D-sides. Fluid and enveloping, the A-side bathes the listener in some zero-G uterine vortex, pitching and rolling from the slo-burning exotic sensuality and tribal spell of ‘The Tropical Year’ to the trunk-bending, arpeggiated fast-track pulse of ‘Storm Trees’, through Raindance’s feverish electro swing. 
 
Entering a further abrasive, minerally rich phase, the B-side unleashes Adriani’s dark side with optimum conviction. Deeply anchored in earthly materiality, this new evolution stage starts off to the frantic Italo bass of ‘Dissolving Images’, rushing headlong into a kaleidoscopic maelstrom of fractured reflections and nasty Giallo-like ambience. The delirious body stretch sequence then rather abruptly swerves onto a calmer flux with ‘Dust/Mist’, a much enticingly hip-swaying collaboration with Simon Crab, ex-member of the seminal ’80s UK industrial-experimental band Bourbonese Qualk, before ‘Casting The Runes’ engulfs us into a tormented world of swollen eeriness and disquieting esoterism. 
 
Back to a widescreen showcase of droney distortions, nasty acid swashes and other quirky drum programming, ‘Hors De Combat’ opens a new chapter, shortly followed by the playful bass intricacies and modular jeu-de-piste of ‘Invisible Seekers’, featuring Avian affiliate and longtime friend Shawn O’Sullivan. A further mind-expanding piece, C-side closer ‘Crow’ deploys its blackened wings wide and high as a chaos of martial percussions and liquefying synths slivers crash past the red-hot skyline. A fluttering melodic interlude, ‘Things About To Disappear’ blazes a clean trail for ‘Make Words Split And Crack’ to flourish, slowly but surely blooming into a nonstop grandiose twelve minute-shy finale geared up with the stirring cacophonic force of a Ligetian symphony and something of an epic-scale Kubrickian soundtrack.
