The mind based on the depth and vision of the world around us evokes its own answers to the questions posed by reality.

A techno duo from Sopot, Poland - OTHK, looking through the prism of changes in the world and regular lockdowns, created their vision of the world described as a cool, condensed and intense version of the response to the stagnant environment. Ice, frost, darkness and fear are not only the items of nature, but also the vision of an inner journey into the depths of impenetrable thoughts, significantly influenced by the current situation in the world. 

The vision of this EP is framed by hypnotic techno with great intensity, thus continuing the story started by Raroh on previously released EP: "As The Past Would Be The Point At Which Time Was Eternity", we welcome you to another chapter under name: "Unknown Glacier Zone Never Seen Before”.

OTHK in their EP focuses on strong kicks, drifting glacial atmospheres, immediately introduces listeners into a melancholic, full of emotions "unknown timeline" in which we don’t know what will be tomorrow.

Remix from Nternal Bserver is a continuation of an endless and intense trip, after which it's hard to come back to reality. 

Raroh, with his full of space remix, introduces a state of hypnosis and oblivion. This release is full of darkness and nostalgic sounds that help to discover in us the rush of intense energy.

PREMIERE: OTHK – Permafrost [UTR004]

Serendipities surround the collaboration between Berlin’s Stroboscopic Artefacts label founder Lucy and their most recent record with Malaysian Bangkok based emerging artist Wanton Witch, who as newcomer to the scene has received great acclaim with her debut LP becoming one of the best albums of 2021 on Resident Advisor and album of the day on Bandcamp. The release culminates in the reimagining of WW album as seen and felt through the lens of Lucy. This is a follow up full-length album by Lucy not approached as a usual remixes record, but instead a fully fleshed out new body of work with the WW material being an integral part of Lucy’s sonic palette.

Despite the label hiatus during the first year of lockdowns, the isolation of the pandemic helped create a fertile ground for a back and forth between Wanton Witch and Lucy’s own distinct sound palettes to collide. With the normal every day pressures of touring lifted and enlightened by WW’s sonic world, Lucy has seen this as a positive opportunity to manifest new pathways of connectivity and process a phase of personal growth. Not simply about the breaking of gender lines, but also about the blurring of creative boundaries, especially when making music.

Lucy’s original patronage of Wanton Witch and her relatively fresh and new voice in the electronic music scene can be seen as a contribution to this idea of dismantling industry norms. In more than a decade of SA operations this is a reset moment for the label’s mission focusing on empowering new talent, refreshing and growing with them, presenting a dynamic two-way process between the label as a whole and the individual artists output.

Lucy’s personal revolution has coincided with Wanton Witch’s own discovery of her musical voice and their paths have created a synchronicity. This osmosis of thought and feeling, even through massive distances, can be so real and tangible. Lucy’s new album is a testament to the power of connective tissue in collaboration. It is this catalyst of realisation that has allowed the creative work to flourish under the toughest of pandemic conditions.

Conrad Van Orton and Jheal sign the third release for Eyes Have It, 30D sub-label that, as usual, explores the darkest, coldest and even suffocating side of the techno spectrum.  

As it happened in the second release (‘Sei Tracce In Nero EP‘ by Reeko & Group), the high contrast between both sides gives sense to the album, giving it a strange but perfect balance, this time quite more oriented to the dance floor. It’s for sure that some people will think that CVO and Jheal might use elements that at first sight might be familiar but, let’s be honest, both have the ability to make everything sound very original.

On the A side Conrad Van Orton, an Italian producer with a lot of experience in techno and the most experimental electronics, elevates the listening to a sonic musical experience, literally. The three tracks, although ‘Dysfunctional Organic Device’ is probably the best example, are pure techno brutality, as highly raw, energetic and obsessive as they are obviously functional. Three true ‘monsters’.

On the B side Jheal, a face already known to the label thanks to his brilliant participation in ‘Close Encounters 002’, brings melancholy (‘150 Wreaths’) and tons of introspection (‘Our Fathers’) to the record. It is not easy for industrial techno to sound as emotional as when Alejandro manipulates it, something especially remarkable for such a young producer. Congratulations.
