DC Promo Tracks: Slowaxx "Femmes Feat. Young A.M.A" (Live)

Okokon returns to Other People with his sophomore album, 'Offering', delving deeper into the lush and cinematic soundscapes he first explored on his debut album, 'Turkson Side'. While primarily working in visual arts, Africanus Okokon, who records under his surname, bridges his artistic practices in 'Offering', using his masterful collage techniques to create his most personal work yet. Defying easy categorization, the album melds influences from dream pop, avant-garde folk, psychedelia, trip hop, and dub, with traces of field recordings seamlessly blended throughout to form a cohesive whole.

'Offering' sees Okokon confronting and negotiating a sudden and unexplained death that occurred in his childhood and the complex emotions left in its aftermath, acting as his main inspiration when making the album. This ambiguity is something that permeates throughout, with Okokon wanting to explore the ambivalence and sometimes uneasiness of contradicting emotions appearing simultaneously, alluded to in the album title. This is also reflected in how the album tracks each inhabit different narrators with varying perspectives on the same events. The result being a hauntingly beautiful album, with recurring themes of death, growth, sacrifice and spirituality ever present.

Dream Chimney is excited to announce the release of “Ilha Espacial,” a captivating 6-track EP by the enigmatic producer Sasha Foam. Set to launch on November 25th, this sonic voyage blends balearic, techno, downtempo and acid elements into a hypnotic cosmic journey.

Sasha Foam, a renowned DJ, producer, and integral member of the TESTFM team as well as Night Lovers, has been steadily building a reputation for his distinctive sound and eclectic selections. With “Ilha Espacial,” he delves deeper into his experimental side, with a collection of six tracks that evoke feelings of interstellar exploration and late night introspection.

“Ilha Espacial” will be followed by a series of remixes from esteemed artists such as Hysteric, X.Y.R, Arsenii, and more. These reimaginations promise to further expand the sonic universe of the original EP, offering fresh perspectives and interpretations.

Mix of the Week #563: DJ Sanza - Get Up And Go

Other People is a record label started in New York City in 2013 by Nicolás Jaar. In its 10 years of existence, it has featured the sonic work of over 70 music releases, highlights include Terepa (2015), a "telepathic" collaboration helmed by Kohei Matsunaga (aka NHK’Koyxen) featuring Rashad Becker, Charlotte Collin, Lucrecia Dalt, Laurel Halo, Julia Holter, Grégoire Simon and Kohei himself, Caves (2021), a compilation of silences featuring Laraaji, Aho Ssan, Ana Quiroga and more, Weavings (2022), a collaborative live piece with Juliana Huxtable, Ellen Fullman, Wukir Suryadi and Rully Shabara of Senyawa, Angel Bat Dawid and others. The label has also put out the 1990 spoken word piece "Conspiracy of Women" (2015) by Lydia Lunch, as well as Tomaga & Pierre Bastien's collaborative album entitled Bandiera di Carta (2019) and Lucrecia Dalt's Esotro / Veta release (2014) with remixes by William Basinski and John Wall. It has also featured the likes of Magdalena Dàugosz, Barbara Zawadzka, Bernadetta Matuszczak, Krzysztof Knittel, Bogusław Shaeffer, Saint Abdullah, Eomac, Dienne, Charbel Haber, Okokon, Against All Logic, FKA Twigs, Darkside, Nicolás Jaar and others.  It has featured the visual work of Maziyar Pahlevan, Africanus Okokon, Zofia Kulik, Jena Myung, Charbel Haber, Abeera Kamran and Somnath Bhatt among others. The label’s current contract states that an artist on the label owns all their rights and decides the full percentage of the revenue they wish to make from their releases on the label, after recoupment. Any of the label’s profit gets given out to artists in forms of grants, workshop and educational initiatives. The label has collaborated in this form with more than three dozen exceptional organizations and individuals in the past three years. Although the label works not-for-profit, it is not a registered non-profit.
