Ancient Astronaut vs Francis Harris & Gabriel Hedrick - B2 (Dub)

A collector by nature, Isabel began experimenting what DJing could be like in 2019, focusing in collecting hidden and forgotten sounds recorded in cassettes over time. It’s in this field that she asserts herself as Son Objet, where her approach to Djing goes from the selection of bizarre and cosmic sonorities from the diy cassette culture movement, combining them with less conventional current compositions. Her main resources are cuts and loops that are infinitely juxtaposed throughout the set to transition and build the narrative thread that wanders between introspection and dance. Along this electronic route, paths focused on psychedelia are outlined, also highlighting spoken words and sound collage.

Her favorite concert, the year before the accident. The details, a little blurrier with each retelling. The t-shirt, a little thinner with each cycle through the machines. The memories, slowly transforming into lint.

Disquiet 0695 invited us to take a piece of our own music and put it through a metaphorical dryer. What would be cast off, and what would remain?

I decided to start with "Mise-en-scene", the piece that I made back in September for prompt #0665: a glitchy, minimalist homage to Achim Szepanski. The original track featured a Møffenzeef Mødular Stargazer drone synth performance over complex 5/4 rhythmic patterns voiced with drum machine samples. 

To put the piece through the dryer, I decided to underlay a more regular and machine-like rhythm (an 8-bar 4/4 percussion part) and make the song get thinner over time. The 4/4 under 5/4 made for some interesting polyrhythms. I thinned out the song by slowly converging the cutoff frequencies of low- and hi-pass filters applied to all of the original tracks. By the end, nothing is left but the 4/4 rhythm of the machine winding down.

So we have an album filled with all the electonic ideas that were directly coming from raves, festivals, and my favorite songs.

This captivating split EP (titled ‘Acosta’), sees Kilchhofer’s second 12”, after his ‘Dersu’ EP on ‘Marionette’. The flip side features Hainbach who gets his work pressed on vinyl for the very first time – after a few tape releases, his latest being on Ted Butler & Cortini’s ‘Limited Interest’ label. This is truly something wonderful from two very gifted and unique artists.

Little Mary is a series by Marionette (a spin-off Marionette artists) – focused on split EPs and collaborative works.

The B2 to the Recast EP featuring Mike Ink, DJ Guy, & Terrestre aka Murcof released 11/09/2017 on Future Primitive.

A second release for London's Future Primitive Records brings to the fore a new hand-picked selection of hard to find - if not overlooked - tracks from Wolfgang Voigt, DJ Guy and Fernando Corona, aka Murcof. All of the music to feature on this four-track Recast EP was previously subject to tape or CD only release.

Lifted from his only album as Love Inc., Wolfgang Voigt's "Income" sits primo as the A1, holding firm 22 years after its original release. Predating Voigt's work as GAS, its caustic chords, shimmering melodies and chilled 85BPM vibe render it a production borne from the classic dub techno blueprint of the early-to-mid '90s. An early take on "slo-mo" techno.

The cassette tapes of DJ Guy have again been raided, with Future Primitive joining a select cast of followers to rejuvenate the Welshman's productions with an edit that appeared on his tape for Crisis Urbana.

Both B-side tracks "Botas De Oro" and "Secondary Inspection Theme" come from Murcof's one-time Terrestre alias, a project from the early-2000s which fuses textural, slow-motion and minimal house sensibilities with Mexican Banda and NorteNo music - aka Nortec, a micro-sub-genre to come out of Tijuana. Loose percussion, swung drums and winding rhythms are made all the more esoteric through the subversively climactic nature of Terrestre's music.

One year ago Hector Plimmer’s debut album ‘Sunshine’ was released to overwhelming support and acclaim. What had initially been uncovered as a collection of almost-finished ideas had been developed into the perfect introduction to Hector as a musician, an artist and an integral part of London’s creative community. So, to mark the anniversary and bring a fitting end to this landmark project for the producer, they have gathered together those pieces and more for "Sunshine Remixed". The release includes thirteen remixes, the original Drahla version of massive debut single Eastern System, and a very special live version of Bossa B, performed with long-time collaborator and friend Wu-Lu and Brixton afro-dub legends Soothsayers.
Francis Harris delivers a deep and pensive rework of 'Let's Stay' which hypnotically drifts with a steady pulse. Perfect for (but not limited to) headphone listening, this cut fits well with an early morning commute or a late night drive. Every track on the album is completely different, making it a totally dynamic listen. Some serious stuff included!

Exclusive Premiere: Hector Plimmer "Let's Stay (Francis Harris Reform)"

with »redsuperstructure«, robert lippok created a new foundation for his musical endeavors. now – 7 years later – this system properly comes to life on »applied autonomy«. the title of the new album is a clear indicator as to what the berlin-based producer has been up to during the last couple of years, both on a conceptual level as well as how he molds his ideas into tracks.

»applied autonomy« orchestrates a certain state of frantic standstill, which occurs once a structure is set. has this state been reached, the artist is free to focus on other equally important aspects, balancing the various shades, pushing ideas even further to really make them shine and blossom in their self-declared autonomy. the more light one lets in, the more layers become visible.

layers are key when it comes to understanding »applied autonomy«. big chunks of the material with which the album has been produced derive from sketches specifically made for a club performance.

rather than meticulously devising each and every detail, lippok focussed instead on recording as many fragments as possible in a short period of time, elements which he could later combine and layer on stage. based on this material and his experience experimenting with it in a live environment, the album slowly began to shape. an album culminating in a collaboration with klara lewis, with whom lippok spent 2 days at the EMS studios in stockholm, approaching the idea of autonomy from yet another angle. during the session, both musicians played and performed simultaneously, yet not explicitly together, lost in their own thoughts and ideas, only subconsciously taking in what the other one was coming up with. the result is »samtal«, 14 minutes of a constantly evolving state of poise, magically connecting all the dots lippok had already defined as »applied autonomy«.

the artwork for »applied autonomy« has been created by the berlin-based argentinian artist luca gutierrez. over the last couple of years, he has made a name for himself with his spectacular AV performances.

Other People is a record label started in New York City in 2013 by Nicolás Jaar. In its 10 years of existence, it has featured the sonic work of over 70 music releases, highlights include Terepa (2015), a "telepathic" collaboration helmed by Kohei Matsunaga (aka NHK’Koyxen) featuring Rashad Becker, Charlotte Collin, Lucrecia Dalt, Laurel Halo, Julia Holter, Grégoire Simon and Kohei himself, Caves (2021), a compilation of silences featuring Laraaji, Aho Ssan, Ana Quiroga and more, Weavings (2022), a collaborative live piece with Juliana Huxtable, Ellen Fullman, Wukir Suryadi and Rully Shabara of Senyawa, Angel Bat Dawid and others. The label has also put out the 1990 spoken word piece "Conspiracy of Women" (2015) by Lydia Lunch, as well as Tomaga & Pierre Bastien's collaborative album entitled Bandiera di Carta (2019) and Lucrecia Dalt's Esotro / Veta release (2014) with remixes by William Basinski and John Wall. It has also featured the likes of Magdalena Dàugosz, Barbara Zawadzka, Bernadetta Matuszczak, Krzysztof Knittel, Bogusław Shaeffer, Saint Abdullah, Eomac, Dienne, Charbel Haber, Okokon, Against All Logic, FKA Twigs, Darkside, Nicolás Jaar and others.  It has featured the visual work of Maziyar Pahlevan, Africanus Okokon, Zofia Kulik, Jena Myung, Charbel Haber, Abeera Kamran and Somnath Bhatt among others. The label’s current contract states that an artist on the label owns all their rights and decides the full percentage of the revenue they wish to make from their releases on the label, after recoupment. Any of the label’s profit gets given out to artists in forms of grants, workshop and educational initiatives. The label has collaborated in this form with more than three dozen exceptional organizations and individuals in the past three years. Although the label works not-for-profit, it is not a registered non-profit.
