For Record Store Day 2016, Khruangbin present two new versions of People Everywhere (Still Alive) one of the standout tracks from their 2015 album The Universe Smiles Upon You. First up Khruangbin deliver a beautiful (and much requested) extended version which sees the band develop and refine the track to lengthened perfection. Next in line emerging artist Vuelo works his dub magic, bringing some bass to the occasion and in doing so creating a worthy soundtrack to a beach festival sunrise. 

This imaginative package from Khruangbin brings a new and unique element to their work. Taking the People Everywhere theme, the band's artistic flair and their interest in design, Khruangbin have invited artists everywhere to contribute to this unusual release. Artists taking part are asked to design a template of the People Everywhere paperchain inlay which will be included in each copy sold and in which the vinyl will rest. Using People Everywhere as inspiration, Artists submit their work for selection via a website set up by the band to house the project. All submissions will appear on the website with information about each artist and the chosen designs will be reproduced, die-cut, and distributed among the physical vinyl releases for Record Store Day. Purchasers of the vinyl will own one of a very limited number containing the same design. This idea reaches out across the globe, using music and art to bring together People Everywhere for this one-off project. 

Sharing their first recordings, Bonobo included Khruangbin's ‘A Calf Born In Winter’ on his 2013 Late Night Tales compilation. Subsequently signed to Late Night Tales offshoot Night Time Stories, ‘A Calf Born In Winter’ was released as a single in May 2014, four-track EP ‘The Infamous Bill’ followed in October, with covers EP ‘History Of Flight’ on Record Store Day 2015. Their debut album ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ was released in November 2015 to widespread acclaim. 2016 is set to be an important year for the band and their rising profile with a series of international live dates planned including Festivals in the UK, Europe, and the US, SXSW, and out on the road this May with Father John Misty supporting on his UK and European tour.

UPDATE: The winners of the DJ Shadow remix contest have been announced! I'm not one of them, but it was great to hear the ones that shadow picked. So glad Archive's Waltz version was in the ranks, played that on my KCRW show on Wednesday. I'm not bummed one bit, everyone who Shadow picked killed it in their own way, and since I only set out to make what I consider to be a beautiful song... I feel successful in that. Other People is a record label started in New York City in 2013 by Nicolás Jaar. In its 10 years of existence, it has featured the sonic work of over 70 music releases, highlights include Terepa (2015), a "telepathic" collaboration helmed by Kohei Matsunaga (aka NHK’Koyxen) featuring Rashad Becker, Charlotte Collin, Lucrecia Dalt, Laurel Halo, Julia Holter, Grégoire Simon and Kohei himself, Caves (2021), a compilation of silences featuring Laraaji, Aho Ssan, Ana Quiroga and more, Weavings (2022), a collaborative live piece with Juliana Huxtable, Ellen Fullman, Wukir Suryadi and Rully Shabara of Senyawa, Angel Bat Dawid and others. The label has also put out the 1990 spoken word piece "Conspiracy of Women" (2015) by Lydia Lunch, as well as Tomaga & Pierre Bastien's collaborative album entitled Bandiera di Carta (2019) and Lucrecia Dalt's Esotro / Veta release (2014) with remixes by William Basinski and John Wall. It has also featured the likes of Magdalena Dàugosz, Barbara Zawadzka, Bernadetta Matuszczak, Krzysztof Knittel, Bogusław Shaeffer, Saint Abdullah, Eomac, Dienne, Charbel Haber, Okokon, Against All Logic, FKA Twigs, Darkside, Nicolás Jaar and others.  It has featured the visual work of Maziyar Pahlevan, Africanus Okokon, Zofia Kulik, Jena Myung, Charbel Haber, Abeera Kamran and Somnath Bhatt among others. The label’s current contract states that an artist on the label owns all their rights and decides the full percentage of the revenue they wish to make from their releases on the label, after recoupment. Any of the label’s profit gets given out to artists in forms of grants, workshop and educational initiatives. The label has collaborated in this form with more than three dozen exceptional organizations and individuals in the past three years. Although the label works not-for-profit, it is not a registered non-profit.
