Few DJs can claim to be original architects of the Drum & Bass scene while still operating at the cutting edge more than 20 years later, but DJ Bailey is one of them. We are thrilled to welcome him to the SUNANDBASS Recordings family with his first-ever solo EP.

As a resident DJ for Metalheadz, founder of Intabeats, Serato Artist, and longtime voice of Kool FM, BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio 1,Bailey's contributions to the Drum & Bass community are legendary. Since being recruited by Kemistry & Storm for Goldie’s iconic Blue Note Sunday Sessions in 1995, Bailey has remained at the forefront of the scene, delivering innovative sets that are as full of energy and groundbreaking music today as they were back then.

Whether behind the decks, on the radio, or in the digital space, Bailey has dedicated his career to discovering and championing new talent. His passion for music is as vibrant as ever, and we’re honored to have him join us with a release deeply rooted in his love for Detroit techno and Chicago house.

“Echoes from the Midwest” captures the rich musical heritage and the ongoing dialogue between drum and bass and its American influences. This EP reflects the fusion of British drum and bass with the roots of techno and house from Detroit and Chicago, highlighting a musical conversation that transcends the Atlantic.

Letter From Detroit

Bottled at SAUCE 001.  This is our brand new mix series, where we 'bottle' the drip live from the dance and bring it direct to you!

To launch this series, it was only right that we start with this very special recording. We threw a free 'pop up' rave, outdoors on a beautiful, sunny, June afternoon in Bristol with the mighty Raze Sound System. The legendary Randall came through with MC Lowqui and they rolled out in trademark style. All said it was an amazing day but it was also the last time we actually got to see him DJ. Today, in exactly the same spot where this party happened, you can now find an incredible graffitti tribute to Randall. Go check out our Instagram page to see photos from this actual set that go with the recording.

The Dusk Session Ep 20

It is rare to find artists capable of underpinning over an hour of variety in a single set. 

Conrad Subs is not just a junglist. He is not just an old school producer. He is the epitome of drum and bass, and he truly understands what this music is about. 

This mix contains work from what I consider to be Conrads' best albums and EP's. 

More Than Just a Little Bit Better, which is the first album you'll hear from, has a modern, energetic funk that I've genuinely not experienced anywhere else. The energy in each track is simply electric and it was a challenge to decide whether they should be reserved for the opening stanza or saved to finish with a pop. Whether I made the right choice is up to you.

The Horizon Leans Forward, the second album I will mention, is, in Conrads own words, something the DNB scene sees less and less of these days.. It's an actual Album. It has a story, emotion and is a force of nature. There are only a handful of tracks from this Album in the mix, but you'll recognise that only a handful are needed to emit the true power within. 

Tides, my favourite Conrad EP, is perhaps the closest thing to an old school rave I'll ever hear. It has a raw, nostalgic feel that send shivers through me and truly makes me question whether the scene today is missing something. Do you know what? 

Leff them dead, Heaven, Noodles, the rest ain't Jungle, the work with Deep in the Jungle and the unreleased dubs.. I could go on and it wouldn't even be hard because Conrads library seems to just go on and on and on and on.. 

I don't subscribe to the idea that mixes need to be as long as possible every time.. When it wraps itself up, seal the box and send it. However, this mix could have wrapped itself up at the 45 minute mark or the hour mark and it would have felt natural. I just couldn't have forgiven myself for leaving out so much quality. You know, this isn't about bangers and tunes that slap. This is about depth, variety, consistency and RESPECT GOD DAMNIT! 

As always, these are my opinions and mine alone. I'm not trying to convince you of anything and the mix itself is my interpretation of another man's music so please try to separate me from the mix and the mix from the individual tracks... if that makes sense? (lol)
