Volume 8 of Global Sounds is here and we're in love with the sounds of Berkay and have been for some time!! Tune in and discover the evocative, slowly-shifting, electronic soundscapes from the man behind Klub Kulampara, DJ/Producer Berkay Mete.

Born in Cappadocia, Turkey, Berkay Mete is a DJ and producer hailing from the city of one of the most recently stirring scenes: Istanbul and has been putting on various electronic music nights in Melbourne.

He focuses on mixing Anatolian, Middle Eastern flavours with his own touch in electronic music and experiments with the traditional sounds of his roots to create spiritual experiences.

Berkay’s most recent club night is called Klub Kulampara. it’s the Melbourne outlet of Istanbul's Mete: A celebration of transcendental electronic grooves from Anatolia and beyond.

Kgomotso's DJ career started 15 years ago, playing vinyl in underground bars in Johannesburg and Pretoria, since then he has made appearances across the globe at festivals and radio stations like Smoking Dragon, Bushfire, Carfax, YFM, Art Basel, Miami Winter Music Conference, Grahamstown Arts Festival and has played varies bars and clubs in Naarm. Just recently he opened for Ausecuma Beats album launch at the Curtain, curating the DJ lineup for Music in Exile, and, of course with Marcellus Pittman at Fairfield Amphitheatre.

Kgomotso is certainly one to watch.

Her passion for collecting records started 9 years ago, where she has played in Northern Soul weekenders, All dayers and All nighters along international DJs.

She has also made appearances on projects like Tropicante Sound Sistema, Sydney Fringe Festival and the Northern Soul Movie premier.

You can delight your ears with her exquisite selections on “The Fever Pitch” on orbital radio on a monthly base, or you can also follow her on her Instagram @_foxy_fuzz for some lockdown song selections.

OWOS "Global Sounds" Volume 11 by La Foxy Fuzz

Here it is friends our final Volume of the year, Global Sounds Vol 12, it's a special one. Mehdi El-Aquil the man behind Condesa Electronics who for the past decade has been quietly assembling some of today's most sought after DJ mixers and Equalizers graces us with a solid hour of dub and rare sounds from far flung locations pulled from his rather impressive and ever expanding record collection. Dig in!

"The recording was done on the fly, I didn't pre plan it, I just got a stack of records together that would suit, revisited a few faves, and stayed away from mixing and went for the selection approach. It's a laid back Sunday session that leans towards dub sounds but travels around a bit, I tried not to be predictable."

OWOS "Global Sounds" Volume 12 by Mehdi El-Aquil

We're in love with the selections in the latest edition of our Global Sounds series! Volume 13 comes from multi-instrumentalist, producer, DJ and image maker Biscotti AKA Carla Ori.

This Global Focus mix indicates her eclectic and diverse taste in music. It includes an Arabic song which is from a cassette tape she bought at a grocery store many years ago, a song by Indonesian singer Lilis Surjani who had a song banned in the 60's for it's political content and finishes with an African 80's love anthem.

So, plug-in and enjoy a world of music and wonder from Biscotti.

First in a series of "Global Dance" focused mixes showcasing artists from here, near and afar who excite in clubs and at festivals the world over and never fail to make people dance!

First up, we have Naarm's favourite ambassador of Turkish dance Baba Noir with a party starter that makes you wish for the weekend. This mix has plenty of dance floor magic to go around, look out for a couple of unreleased Baris K tracks the great man passed to Baba at last Inner Varnika festival.

A deep digger and known for her joyously infectious live sets on Boiler Room, My Analogue Journal, Worldwide FM, NTS, Balaami, Jazz FM and regular dance parties and festival Baskets of Light, her passion lies within past musical gems found within the sprawling Caribbean diaspora. While she doesn’t stick to one style or genre, she weaves tunes that are genuinely eclectic and ignite dancefloors with percussive rhythmic movement, spinning anything from Forró to broken beat, to house, Kwaito and zouk.

Lots of people living far from home continuing and building on sounds."

OWOS "Global Sounds" Volume 2 by Carlo Xavier

Volume 3 of our Global Sounds series comes courtesy of broadcaster, DJ and musician, Elle Young, aka "DJ Friday". A beautiful mix of downtempo balearic, digi dub and deep house featuring lush sounds from the likes of Yu Su, Zongamin, Ensemble Entendu, DJ Python, WAVE FORM, Beatrice Dillon, among others.

Walla C is an MC/producer from Rio de Janeiro, now resident in Melbourne and Co-host of PBSfm show Fresh Produce. Walla C's compositions are known for their signature percussive style, feature intricate synths and draw inspiration from jazz, funk, and Afro-Brazilian sounds. His DJ sets are dynamic and rhythm-driven, as he weaves effortlessly between Afrobeat, trap, raw baile funk and tropical bass to ignite dancefloors.

DJ Possum with Volume 5 of Global Sounds and I'm not going to say much more than that, other than to say, read her account below of how this mix came to be and just listen, it's quite something.

"I just wanted to remember the day I decided to share this music, I wrote this and how I was feeling.

Other worlds, Other Sounds... it reminded me that music was always this to me: a traveling vehicle, escaping, dreaming, shifting my mood... meditating on these sounds it's a bittersweet feeling, like I thought I should make a fun mix, I thought, it should be a celebratory, joyful feeling and it's so hard to bring myself to be content with just that. It needs to be connecting me with the rest of the world and what we are going through, spiritually.

Not being from Australia and having family overseas didn't allow me to ignore the doors of apocalypses, so here you have something to look inwards."
