A crew made up of established and upcoming mind hackers has set out to reprogram MINDFRAME: These data warriors used FRANCOIS DILLINGER’s encrypted code and wrote a new script designed to set us all free from the dream. 

Each hacker delivers within their specific character and style, while willingly showing off a range of elegant interpretations—from half-time excursions to acid madness, through time traveling industrial-DNB, laser-sharp rhythms, and hypnotic meditations of melody. 

MINDFRAME is a concept from the mind of FRANCOIS DILLINGER, launched with the album ‘MINDFRAME: Cycles’ on Specimen Records. The story continues to expand during a monthly podcast on Deep Space Radio (twitch.com/deepspaceradio), the final Sunday of every month at noon Detroit | 5 PM London. Upcoming 2021 guests on the show include TELEPHASYCX!, Ivna Ji, Jauzus The Shining, Serge Geyzel & Karsten Pflum, Arsonist Recorder — all part of the Specimen roster of artists.

'Rough Edges' illustrates the perfect balance struck by Dez Williams, with intricate nuances breaking through barrages of raw kinetic force, all thriving on a sense of timelessness intersecting a feeling of immediacy.

'Colour Bind' cold fuses electro techno minimalism, with a fractured redux rhythm track accented by gooey bass stabs, visited by electro synth leads and dub tech stabs. The vibe is concise while feeling wide open.

'Rough Edges' is an epic stomper, built from rag tag random filter hits, a pulverizing wash of dirty monosynth in the low register, and a sinking atmosphere that descends into an electrified funky break.

'Bitofbaataa' immediately takes things interstellar. Dirty bass and expansive pads warp the senses, intersected by sliding melodic figures and a ferocious clap. Even this far in the cosmic realm, choice vocal hits keep things funky.

Sludgey dynamics take over on 'Saw Losers'. Menacing monster synths and huge crushing beats are paired with diabolical themes and resonant implosions.

'Never Perfect' wraps the EP on a sparkling effervescent high. Popping beats and a melodic bass groove slip and slide under some pedal tone synth siren calls. The elements are tied together with tranquil meditative string pads. The profound final statement to this release beautifully illustrates the journey and process of expression. Dez Williams reveals the mess and the magic in his process, coaxing depth and humanity from inhuman sonic palettes.

‘Aquamarine Puzzle’ marks a new step in the sound of Luxus Varta who has previously released on Solar One Music and Intramuros Records.  Six paths are etched for this journey into time, space and the machine.  A spectrum of sound is allowed to roam, to wander into strange worlds of galvanised synth lines, serrated snares and soulful strings.  The 12” comprises perfectly balanced, astral melodies countered by crisp and precise rhythms, and distant harmonies tethered to absorbing bass.  A renewed partnership with machinist in arms, Paris The Black FU of Detroit Grand Pubahs is formed for the mechanical dreamscape that is ‘Globb’.  A complex and utterly compelling encounter with the Luxus Varta nebula !

If you haven’t tuned in to Mercure Rétrograde on the waves of LYL Radio, We recommend you do. The bimonthly ritual, directed and executed by Agnes Aves, paints the perfect picture of what a DJ’s deejay is supposed to do behind the decks. Her cold-blooded precision and attention to detail could be attributed to her formal education in fine arts and classical piano (theory to be verified by her). Agnes also runs NOED, short for No One Ever Dances. A mix and event series showcasing quality music by quality artists. 

What else can we say without sounding like a pathetic groupie? Passionate humans like her is the reason we do what we do so we are very excited for Agnes’ offering to the Aperitif series.
