Following his contributions to some of our very first releases, O-Ma returns on Ōtium and joins forces with Pierre Montagnon for Kōgen, a tape & digital duo album.

Recorded in Tokyo during 2020 lockdown, Kōgen embraces current post-apocalyptic world-setting. Across the 8 tracks and an additional 20 mn live recording, the few broken club influences and hopeful ethereal pads get occluded by industrial field-recordings elements, eerie drones and noise textures.

Slowly crafted in an analog & modular synthesis environment, the album tracks all comes from re-arranged improvised live session. The 20mn recording that ends the release (Bandcamp digital bonus only) gives the opportunity to dive in the original composition setting of the album.

Kōgen comes in a limited press of 25 tapes.

Latvian producer mu tate (@mutate3k) joins Utter with the ‘Faded’ EP, a collection of five mesmerising ambient electronica pieces.

mu tate - real name Artur Strekalov - has been diligently and unceremoniously weaving his musical magic for the past half-decade. ‘Faded’ walks the same spectral path as his feted album ‘Let Me Put Myself Together’ (Experiences Ltd, 2020), which introduced many to Strekalov’s highly atmospheric, blissed-out sonic explorations. The EP glides along, each track enveloping the listener in a cocoon of undulating frequencies and ghostly rhythm, softly contained yet stretching out beyond into wide open space. Delicate, crackling sparks fizz in and out of perception above.

It’s a trip alright!

‘Faded’ is available on limited vinyl and digital formats, mastered and cut by Anne Taegert at D&M. Artwork by AS, laid out by Alex Egan. A special insert designed by Art Crime is also included with physical copies.

We're currently crossing the t's and dotting the i's on a forthcoming double LP, but such is the quality and quantity of his archive we opted to release these 9 recordings with a coinciding riso print from Crud* for you to do with as you please. Strictly available via Bandcamp, releases August 25th. From Christos:

"Philosophically you can regard this music as a fresh view of the ideas of Ferdinand de Saussure - Structuralism and Deconstruction. It is a new approach when it comes to linguistics, the traditional music of the area, where Greece stands as a crossroads and future intelligences. I was interested to hide a fundamental philosophical question in music which would have the same qualities and immediacy as the authentic local music of the area."
