Breaka & Frazer Ray - The Loudest Woiioii Ever

The third of Breaka’s self-releases sees collaborations between himself, known-associate Frazer Ray, and brother Bakey.
“Fun with a capital F is the theme of this EP. I selected these four with that in mind, each one also bringing a different flavour of the UK sound. ‘The Loudest Woiioii Ever’ and ‘Phone’s Ringin’ are the product of a few sessions that me and Frazer managed to squeeze in last year. We were hugely inspired by early dubstep, instrumental grime, and of course UK Funky.
For the flip, I thought it was high time to release some of me and my brother’s productions for the world to hear. ‘Club Dynamics’ takes things right up to 150bpm, and draws on Jungle and Juke influences. We round off the release with ‘Pro Perc', a UKG groover to vibe out to, named after the now closed drum shop on Kentish Town Road we’d visit as kids.“

Riding high off the rhythms of his ‘Club Wonk EP’ earlier this year, Alex Young aka Villager returns to Chloé Robinson’s Pretty Weird imprint with three tracks that further define his artistry. Villager has a particular way of acknowledging the fundamentals of UKG, bass and techno with his own twist; reconstructed and reimagined through sampling and hardware, while recorded live on groove boxes. He reveals the inspiration behind his latest ‘Blind Eye EP’ is “hyper dimensional mushroom club”.

The bouncing melodies and filtered pads that open the lead track ‘Blind Eye’ conjure eloquent soundscapes that strip down into syncopated rhythms and shuffling garage hi-hats. Vocal cuts add to the atmospherics and the intricate melodics build plenty of emotion.‘Oh Wow’ takes a more reductive approach; bouncing toms and fluctuating pitch-bends ride alongside 2-step beats and sparse vocals that create unconventional moments and mind-altering breakdowns. The fast-paced kicks and pulsating bassline of ‘Lemons' provide the foundations while chopped elements are in constant fluctuation, transporting you from rolling percussion and weighty stabs into a beautiful reverie of dreamlike melodies. All three tracks exude club playability and effortless energy, keeping the sentiment of the live jam strong.

Human Movement, the project of Edward McDonald has entered new heights over the past year. The artistic focus has evolved from club focussed house tracks to delicately curated and well thought out dance music spanning from a range of influences in UK Garage, breakbeat and techno. Recent support from DJ Boring, DJ Seinfeld and Brame & Hamo has solidified Human Movement's new solo chapter as a key name in Australian underground dance music. Between releases he's provided us with his latest B Side, 'Addicted' a breaky, UK garage inspired breakbeat number, with influences ranging from jazz to dub.
