A little finger-reaction/counterweight to the ongoing pop festival Way Out West, which dominates my hometown right now.

Far Out West (piano)

One tri-core oscillator, one PT delay and one weevil controlling them both. CV processed by five auxiliary modules (3xslew {2 x env, 1 x SV filter}, mixing, clock division). All in all 8 Bugbrand modules. Today's patching excercise.

Mind Grinder - minimal patch (snippet)

A noodle that turned up while experimenting with dual Blacet/Wiard MiniWave scale quantization. The rest is Bugbrand modules. One take, no edits. Some tinkering while playing.

Lullaby For Thinkers

An experiment with simplistic rhythms on a Bugbrand modular. All sounds are generated by using clock pulses to ping three resonant self-modulating state-variable filters. Three PT Delays are used to process the sounds thereafter. The clock pusles are generated by a Seq1 sequencer and three cock dividers. Just one improvised take.

The tape part for the piece Northern Mirror, commissioned by NoHo Theatre Company. To be premiered in the company of fine Noh dancers and musicians, July 18th, 2011, at the NoHo 30th Anniversary Performance, Oe Noh Theatre, Kyoto, Japan.

This is a sequel to the work Eastern Mirror, commissioned and performed 10 years ago by the NoHo Theatre Company.

The afterlife of a patch on my Bugbrand Modular, recorded in one go. A Weevil module (rev.2) is used as the main sequencing device, assisted by lots of other things, administred through a matrix mixer. Another Weevil is working in the audio range. The fanfare-like section in the middle is to celebrate that Tom Bugs is visiting Sweden right now.

I Don't Think Music Should Relax Your Mind

A self-playing patch to test two new tri-core wavefolding oscillators (Syn2C) in my Bugbrand modular system. These are controlled by two inter-modulating quadrature LFOs in various combinations, and processed through two PT-delays. Recorded in one go with no human interaction. Only slight compression and reverb added.

Slowly Discharging Air of Negativity

A late night test of my Metasonix D-1000 all-tube drum machine beast, recorded straight with no edits and only slight compression. Way too long, I know, but no time to edit right now.

Vacuum Tube Drums - D1000 meditation

A test of controlling three inter-connected PT Delays. This is a very characteristic delay module designed by Tom Bugs. When pushed towards very long delay times, the sound deteriorates in a nice way. A touch sequencer (CTL1) is used to alter all three delay times at once, as well as for gestural control of the source sounds, consisting of two intermodulating sine oscillators. There is also a generative ostinato going on, keeping the chaos together.

Recorded in one take, with no overdubs, on my Bugbrand modular.

Associate professor in computer-aided creativity at the University of Gothenburg, researching new ways of creating and performing music, and main lecturer in electronic music composition at the Academy of Music and Drama, Gothenburg, Sweden. Also makes a lot of music for stage productions (theatre/dance), and has a strong interest in awkward electronic instruments and other devices for sound synthesis.
