今日は目が覚めてしまったので夜中に音楽制作。自宅のベランダから録った環境音に楽器を足してみました。今日遊びに行ったきのえね夜市の終わったあとの雰囲気もなんだかよくてそんなのも思い出しながら。虫の音がここちよくなってきましたねえ。

I woke up today and made music in the middle of the night. I added some instruments to the environmental sounds I recorded from my balcony. The atmosphere after the "Kinonene Yoruichi", where I went today, was also very nice, and I remembered it as well. The sound of insects is becoming more and more pleasant.

"Travel Bag II" is the second chapter in the sonic adventure of Singaporean music producer Ryouko.

Carrying on the atmosphere of the first chapter, "solstice" adds a deeper melancholic touch to the adventure, with rich but minimal instrumentation. 

The outro to this chapter is "yaezaki's lullaby", a bright and gentle piece, featuring field-recordings, calm drones and playful piano progressions.

I Swear

This is the closing track off of "Hyphae", a collection of tracks I made with fellow ambient guitarist Wodwo (Ray Robinson -- https://soundcloud.com/user-364196783-552705040). 

It all started with discovering each other’s work on Soundcloud and grew into a lively exchange of ideas and sketches. With both being on a quest to take the less obvious sonic route, always searching for the uncommon guitar sound, and their fondness for spacious and slightly unsettling ambient compositions, the sessions were kickstarted with the appropriately titled "Germ", which gestated into what became the first completed track of this long-distance collaboration between Munich and Derby. 

The title for the second track, "Hyphae" came to mind after reading Merlin Sheldrake’s fascinating “Entangled Life”. It seems apt to draw parallels between the massive mycorrhizal fungi hyphae networks (the "Wood Wide Web") that connect different species of plants and transport substances and information between them, and the to and fro of abstract layers of sonic matter that passed between the two musicians. 

The collection closes with "Simulacrum", probing the terrain where a bright major key tonality coalesces with a bit-crushed low-end undercurrent. And despite what your ears might lead you to believe, no keyboards or synths were used in any of this music!

SOPHOMORE ALBUM 'HI SCORE'.

Gatos Negros, aka Madrid DJs/ producers Christian C. & Iván Smoka, second album 'Hi Score' is a texture and abstraction gambling project now on sale via Vasco Ispirian's Made in Green Records label. 'Hi Score' sees the duo sailing ethereal ambient soundscapes, shady alt rock waves, experimental grooves almost horizontally danceable, acid electro-pop & avant-garde electronica- all in an utterly smart, consistent, and effective vocal fashion.

'HI SCORE' TRACK BY TRACK

The album's fully hybrid and lethargic sonic land starts with the ghostly, almost shoegaze, borderline post-rocker 'The Ballad of Victoria Winters', followed by the troubling ambient 'Up in the Smoke'. Everything melts onto pitch black with 'First Sleep' only to resurface again with the spectral sonic 'Chasing Cassie', which gives way to the obscure narcotic shades of 'Night Shift'. A fuzzy, ethereal melody starring loops follows on 'An Alternative Route', while 'Galactic Gigolo' draws us out of the mist only to entangle us with playful counterpoint arpeggios. Kyonsi's proposal is a complete immersion in a bordering dream-pop warm space to wander through, searching for a light that only sparkles inside us. 'Say Goodbye to the Creatures' digs deep into melancholic post-rock noise and electronica, steady ascending ladder steps towards total emptiness. The gloomy 'Who am I?' foreshadows quite an unhappy, swampy, requiem-esque ending. And the final number, 'The Jukebox Dance', let us lose ourselves in this rare nostalgia that evokes timeless and distant dances that perhaps did not ever exist.

First Sleep

Rueben is the third album produced by Italian composer and cellist Sandro Mussida, to be released on Die Schachtel at the end of 2020.
Following EEEOOOSSS (Soave, 2019), Rueben makes use again of a microtonal vocabulary and a three-instrument sound palette. This time the samples are approached in a radically different way and are treated as minuscule sound atoms projected at extremely fast speed to form structures of ever changing density. In this new record, electric guitar, bass clarinet and cello harmoniously dialogue with each other, forming a multi-layered and contemplative sonic landscape. The acoustic response of the big reverberant church of St.Giusto in Volterra (Italy), where the sounds were played and recorded as they echoed in the space, gives the source material its peculiar depth adding harmonic complexity but also a sense of realness and liveness to the listening experience. 

The work has been inspired by the observation of Italian Renaissance paintings during Mussida’s composition sessions in the summer of 2018 and recalls Pavel Florenskij’s idea of ‘reverse time’, conceived by the Russian theologian when discussing his well-known theory of reverse perspective in relation to Medieval Russian icons. Reverse time refers to a particular temporal condition underlying dreams and the experience of looking at works of art: a non-linear conception of time presenting its own duration, as opposed to the empirical one unfolding in our everyday life.
Following a new established relationship between seeing and hearing, a similar temporal conception seems to emerge from the listening of the nine compositions forming Rueben, an invitation to reflect through the language of sound on the time spent absorbing an image through one’s eyes.
The work could then be listened to as the translation into sound vibrations of the experience of seeing, a trace of suspended time, even as a tangible sensation or a memory of it, the result of a process of translation between the different media of perception.

The nine tracks of Rueben will be part of a new film by video artist Rebecca Salvadori, which will be released later in Autumn 2020.
