Last year I watched an interview with Robbin Williams’ wife where she mentioned that Robin killed himself because he was suffering from debilitating brain disorder Lewy body dementia,  a difficult-to-diagnose condition that afflicts 1.4 million people worldwide and leads to a decline in thinking and reasoning abilities. 

Imagine that… Imagine Robin Williams, the creative genius, coming to the realization that he can't any longer do what he does best; entertain others.

I wrote “Amuse You” thinking of Robin Williams.

However, at the time I was recording and producing this song, I kept hearing news about other musicians like David Bowie, Lemmy and Karl Brodie, an amazing singer-songwriter that I was lucky to meet last year, that also passed because of cancer.

That is when this song “Amuse You” took another meaning for me.

“Amuse You” is a song written for all artists who have gone too soon.

- People running naked in the street.
- Living walking distance from the beach.
- People high as a kite partying in their parent's house.
- No Christmas presents.
- Walking home at night without worrying about getting mugged... or killed.

Those were just a few things that I experienced and appreciated back in December 2008 in Australia... which was my first Christmas time away from home, family, Venezuelan Christmas music, and my favorite Venezuelan food.

Just so you know... Christmas has been more normal, and PG rated, after 2008 but I don't usually write songs about normal stuff. That's why I wrote 'Christmas High'.

Only in two occasions I have written songs about people that I have never met. 
The first time was when I wrote a song about Robin Williams (Amuse You); right after he died.
And the second time was after Oscar Pérez was assassinated (Quien).
Both death really shocked me and I think the only way for me to deal with my emotions at the time was by writing songs about their days before they departed this physical world.

Sólo en dos ocaciones he escrito canciones acerca de personas que nunca conocí.
La primera vez fue cuando Robin Williams murió. Y la segunda vez cuando Oscar Pérez fue asesinado.
Ambas muertes me impresionaron mucho.
Pienso que la mejor forma para yo lidear con mis emociones en aquel entonces, fue escribiendo canciones acerca de sus dias antes de haber partido de este mundo físico.
