Dear all,
 I have been working on a video series inspired by 5 artworks from different disciplines which brought me new musics very organically over the past year. But I wanted to walk another path this time, instead of sharing the music on digital media as usual, I decided to bring it together with my own visual world and share it only on my youtube and instagram pages. (You can hear a a little rebellion against music industry:)
The first project is called ‘’Blue’’ written after a triology by Polish director Kieslowski. While experiencing a work of art I focus only on the emotions. In fact, this is the case in my entire life. I barely remember what was said or done, most of the time what is left behind is just a feeling. Maybe this is why I don't have many interest in reading the descriptions, texts or searching the images and symbols underneath. I love the natural flow. Do not prefer to interrupt my personal reflections. I believe words lose their function after the emotion to be conveyed crosses the street. But before I share this one, I wanted to take a look at it more detailed. The symbols in the film and their meanings both surprised me and confirmed what I said above. This is a music movie and it contains a rebirth story. It's not my job to comment further on the movie, all I can say the it has touched my heart. I carried a melancholy the following days. Finally, when this melody appeared, I was freed from the intensity and pressure of my emotions. Consider this as a call you give a friend to tell what happened. I editted the video too. Let's see what this will tell you.

On Kieslowski's Blue

E511 | Among the most murky periods of the Ottoman dynasty's six-century history is the period of its very emergence in medieval Anatolia. In this episode, we talk to Rudi Lindner about his attempts to understand this early period of Ottoman history and the development of hypotheses and methods concerning the investigation of Ottoman origins over the past century of scholarship. We also reflect on what decades of research and teaching has taught Lindner about sources for history and the questions they require us to ask.

Rudi Lindner is Professor Emeritus of History and Astronomy at the University of Michigan, and the author of the books, Nomads and Ottomans in Medieval Anatolia, published by Indiana University Press in 1983, and Explorations in Ottoman Prehistory, published by the University of Michigan Press in 2007.

Joshua M. White is Associate Professor of History at the University of Virginia. He is the author of Piracy and Law in the Ottoman Mediterranean (Stanford University Press, 2017).

Maryam Patton is a PhD candidate at Harvard University in the joint History and Middle Eastern Studies program. She is interested in early modern cultural exchanges, and her dissertation studies cultures of time and temporal consciousness in the Eastern Mediterranean during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

The Origins of Ottoman History | Rudi Lindner

E526 | How was European military intervention in the Ottoman Empire justified throughout the nineteenth century? What did the Ottoman statesmen and subjects think of these would-be attemepts to provide them with more security? From the late eighteenth century, as a new international system was emerging, European powers considered the Ottoman Empire a weaker foil to their own expanding empires. In this episode, Ozan Ozavci explores how this perception of Ottoman weakness, known as the Eastern Question, affected the Ottoman Empire's place in and engagement with the new international system and law. Exploring the different phases of the Eastern Question, from the French invasion of Egypt in 1798 to the Civil War in Greater Syria durings the 1860s, Ozavci highlights agency of individual actors in the Ottoman capital and the provinces.

Ozan Ozavci is Assistant Professor of Transimperial History at Utrecht University and co-convenor of the Lausanne Project.

Zeinab Azarbadegan is a post-doctoral fellow at the Vienna School of International Studies. She completed her PhD at Columbia University. Her research focuses on imperial knowledge production about the space of Ottoman Iraq by the Ottomans, the Qajars, and the British in the late nineteenth century.
