而立(Er li) means 30 years old in Chinese.
This song is completed on 25 Sept 2019, 2 hours before my 30th birthday.
It serves as a memorial for me entering my 30s, at the same time reflecting my life all the way.

Living in a different country, as well as in a universe with confrontation and instability, frankly I am feeling a bit lost.
I was born and grew up in Hong Kong, with some periods of time getting in touch with Japanese and Taiwanese culture, and end up at this moment in the island of Taiwan, thinking how I should proceed from now on.

I have always said that my life ends at the age of 40.
This pushed me to seize every opportunity to do things I want them happen, and do them with my best.
Base on this belief, I have walked through a majority of my entire life. My question to myself was: did I do a good job on what I wanted to do, and what I had to do?

My answer is yes.
Reflecting the 30 years that I went past, I am thankful to each and every person that I came across and had the chance to interact with.
I am also thankful to every piece of land that I stepped on, which provided me so much about global culture.
Just as Steve Jobs said, there are many dots in our life, and at some point these dots join together.
I believe at this point of time, I have found that line, and walking through the path that it leads, which is also towards my own goals.

I have always both loved and hated Japanese culture.
In one way it inspired how I think.
I learned to take a step back before looking at things, and try to treat it all-rounded.
In another way, there are so many stubborn mindsets in the culture, which inhibits progressive thoughts, creativity and communication.
But all in all, I am still admiring the Japanese culture, and decided to have a Japanese-style melody as the theme of this memorial song.
To give gratitude to my home town - Hong Kong, as well as the island that I am living in - Taiwan, there are elements of these two regions in the piece as well.
Not to mention that scraps of my previous creations are also included.

At the end of the piece, I chose to end with a questionable Eb minor chord.
I am not 100% sure about how I should proceed for my future.

But I am determined to live.
I will enjoy my life, do everything that I wished to happen, one by one, and do them with my best.
I am also eager to work with more people on any aspects, which would walk with me in the coming future.

Thanks to Kero for providing me the title of this song, having both a Chinese and English meaning.
