Today we come to you with a lil special love nugget. This is a track we put together sometime ago and have been playing it in more intimate and cosy gatherings. It's our re-interpretation of a track called Goin' Bad from Soul Keita released on the marvellous Other People imprint back in 2010. Soul Keita is an artist we've been inspired by over the years and our curiosity has led us to really soak up every single piece he has released. Other than what remains of his music under this alias, he's been traceless for years.

Established Netherlands-based artist Satori lands on Damian Lazarus’ flagship label once again this November with his new track, Yellow Blue Bus. This is the first of three singles to be released ahead of his next Crosstown Rebels album, which will be out in April 2022, and was recorded in the iconic setting of Ibiza’s Sonic Visa Studios.

Satori described the meaning behind the track, stating: “My girlfriend is from Russia. Her name is Karina and to say ‘I love you’ in Russian you say ‘Ya lyublyú Vas’. To memorise this as a foreigner, you basically memorise ‘Yellow Blue Bus’. So I decided to write a song about a Yellow Blue Bus but the bus is actually my girlfriend.”

The release begins with real-life ambience, the likes of which was recorded live in Ibiza as a bus passes and birds chirp merrily in the background. This soon gives way to a guitar-flecked bassline, opening neatly into the vocal offerings of both Satori and Laska aka Karina. There’s a euphoria to the piece, created through rhythmic percussion that remains subtle throughout, whilst the heartfelt lyrics of the couple drift dreamily alongside.

From holding down an eighteen month residency at Heart, Ibiza to having nearly four-hundred-thousand listeners on Spotify each month, Satori is a truly worldwide artist in today’s electronic music scene. Having been championed by Damian Lazarus early on in his career, he has emerged as a must-see live act for fans from all corners of the globe. Next month marks the start of his USA tour, where his Maktub concept will adorn some of the country’s most iconic clubbing institutions. His discography speaks for itself, with a plethora of acclaimed releases on labels including Crosstown Rebels, Sol Selectas and DGTL Records.

In order to see, we need light, but we are not blind in the darkness. Our eyes adapt to the darkness and we see contours and shapes. Only colours are hard to differentiate. That’s why we say, ‘All cats are grey at night’. Darkness lets you feel all your other senses much stronger. For example, you hear much better.
That’s why Benno Blome’s debut album “Night Shots” is best heard after sunset. Each of these tracks are like a picture taken under low light, where schemes and structures come together in the process of its development. The night itself becomes the target here.
Each part of every track is scheduled to be experienced during the nightfall. The absence of daylight is the concept where adrenaline rushes through the veins like cars driving through city streets. Traffic, people, clubs, flashlights – everything shines in shapes and forms.
After 18 years of music production, countless EP’s and remixes on his own imprint, Sender, and befriended labels like Bar 25 Music, it was finally time for Benno Blome to drop his first full length album. He noticed a strong current running though his productions, beginning to interconnect his album already. So he came out of the studio with some brand new material (“Spherical Aberration”, “White Flag”, “Full Frame”, “High Grain”, “Lense Distortion” as well as an edit of “Have Some”) and bound it together with his favourite recent tracks (“Abotha“, “Father Of Birds”, “Drop Out”, “Check Check”, “Jac Jac” and “People Keep On”). The plan turned out even better than expected, as the combination of all these tracks tied together and created an almost magical, maybe even addictive flow. As you would expect, the storyboard to this flow was written by Benno and the night, but he had help by some good friends as well. “People Keep On” was coproduced by Kotelett & Zadak, “Lense Distortion” by Daniel Dreier and “Father of Birds” by Hopperider.

The entire EP stretches the imagination and touches the borders of hip hop and electronic beats. He intertwines his own musical journey with the sounds of his hometown. It is also the attempt at a new genre by blending hip hop elements with electronic music to create something unique. 

This funky fusion expresses itself in three original tracks. "Toledo" - the first single of the EP - gives a thrilling intro to the EP. This one is sure to cause a ruckus on the dance floor.

For Chris Tooker, the first decade of his artistic journey was immersed in bands while the second was engaged in wandering the realms of electronica in the form of creator, composer and engineer for DJ duo KMLN. 

Today, after many incarnations, Tooker returns to the source of himself while carrying both the treasures of his past and a vision for the future. Tooker has long been called to pursuing obsessive trails through the greater cosmos. On these journeys, he seeks particles with a hypnotic essence. Once found, he interprets this magic in his own special way, through the most universal language - music. 
Tooker’s music tells stories of fascinating adventures through the dust, the palms and the gritty streets of yonder. To Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan’s label Ouie, he brings a memento of sorts with his stunning debut EP Nang’o which took form during an immersive trip to East Africa. Founding adventure and travel collective Kultur, a nine-day expedition to Kenya was the first Tooker organised. Created to discover the marvels of life through bonding adventures, nature, music, art and traditions, the trip included safaris in the Savanna, workshops, culinary experiences, island trips and festival Kilifi to see in the New Year. 

After the trip, he took three weeks off in Nairobi. Eager to collaborate with Kenyan musicians, he connected with a woman he’d met at the festival who sent him music from over a 100 artists. Whittling the talented selection down to ten, he booked a studio for a week and hooked up with Labdi, the multi-instrumentalist who features on the EP. 

Labdi’s phenomenal talents can be heard in lead track Nang’o. Her route (a western Kenyan fiddle instrument) and bewitching vocals provide the hooks for this subtle, shuffling track, presented here as both a full version and as an instrumental. 

Baladi features Shawna Hofmann both on co-production and vocal duties - this time a more driving, rolling groove develops with Shawna adding sultry, evocative vocals to the mix. 

Undone rounds off the physical release - another signature exercise in subtlety and restraint, as an infectious groove folds in bubbling synths, crisp percussion and dubby effects. 

The digital release also offers extra radio edits of Nang’o and Baladi, as well as a new track, Era featuring Erodisma. This builds its power via a insistant kick and arpeggiated synth line, before revealing soft chords and live-recorded guitars.

Ouïe is the label where tales will be told. 

You hear the artist’s influences; the travellers they passed, the lovers they lost, the jungles, deserts and cities they crossed. And, of course, you hear the work of musicians whose knowledge of music allows them to cross-pollinate computer music with ease. Think jazz. Imagine disco. Dream ambient. Desert grooves. Imagine what you can’t. 

Behind Ouïe are Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan, guys who have created these shifts with their music over multiple utopian soirees attracting some of the most colourful and awake people on the planet. Joining them to tell the tales will be friends old and new. Quantum collage, Oceanvs Orientalis, Nu and of course many more, but this will happen organically and diversely, like the music.
