The mid-eighties, Madrid. The Spanish capital is teeming under the grip of a musical explosion the likes of which has never been seen before. In the midst of that rabid swirl, a teenager, unknown and unassuming, enters a record shop to blow his savings on an album, Standing on a Beach, by The Cure. Little did he know that this was to be his first step on the long and difficult path to becoming one of the country’s essential djs.

UK based Techno producer best known by his work on the Belgium based Token Records and whose style ranges from gritty minimal techno to Detroit influenced material. Originally a Mastering engineer, Ø[Phase] began producing as a sideline, releasing his debut 'Module Overload' on Steve Bicknell's Lost/Cosmic records in 2000. This was followed by a string of productions for London's Surface/Inceptive Records and Ben Sims Ingoma imprint, all of which saw consistent big name support throughout the techno community. He started working with Token in 2007 and since then his music has progressively gained more & more worldwide attention - most significantly on 2012's much acclaimed 'Binary Opposition' single and subsequent 'Reprocessed' remix package. Recent times have seen him remix for the likes of Robert Hood, Peter Van Hoesen & Mark Broom amongst others while avid support from Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock have led to several appearances at Berghain in Berlin. With Adam’s stature steadily growing as one of the leading talents in the Techno scene and the rise of Drumcode, the standard of demo’s that have been sent to Adam have been top notch. Adam has now decided to release two compilations with 10 tracks each, consisting of tracks that Adam has tried and tested. There are also new artists that have been invited to release on Drumcode for this compilation and others who are a staple in Drumcode’s core family. Combining both old and new talents Drumcode have come up with something unique and distinctive to make this two-part compilation something extra special.

We are huge fans of the Dutch maestros @TWR72 and the relentless quality of their imprint that goes by the name of @FloatRecords.

Check out the first half of this double pack Reflect (Part 1) that included Developer, Kwartz and Myk Derill. It’s an honour to select this original track from the guys themselves on the next instalment that enlists Markus Suckut, Samuli Kemppi and A001 on remix duty.

“Response” is a whirlwind of intensity and manic power. Crunchy kicks and rough textures filling the mix get this gem going, where the synth stabs and siren-esque squeals make this a monstrous beast. Haunting organs and a tom drum providing an obscure ‘tick tock’ at the final break finish it off with great suspense.

> 01. What was the thinking behind this track and did you achieve what you set out?

Actually this track was a sort of follow up for ‘Balance.’ It was intended to sound a bit similar but with an improved character. As you can hear, the processing of the main synth is pretty much the same, but the sound on Response is a bit warmer. The overall feel is also a bit more aggressive. We were busy with a new working method at the time on how to process our sounds to give it more character and depth. Sound wise but also the rhythm of the sound. We can say that we achieved some goals on this track, but with every track we produce it’s always a surprise where it ends up.

> 02. What tips and advice can you share to any producers on shaping their own sound?

Be experimental, because there are no rules.

> 03. What is your go to track at the moment by another artist?

This a good opportunity to use some shameless promotion for our own imprint Float Records. As label owners we have the possibility to create a platform for the music we love. And there are a million ways to run a label and there are millions of decisions you can make. We feel that the Techno scene is extending in a good way and we’re trying to contribute in the development of it by giving talented producers a chance. We recently signed Fisssh and Kuf which is going pretty well. The upcoming release is by Altinbas. He did a track called “Imminent Probe” and although it’s a pretty basic track, it worked every time we played it. It was and still is our secret weapon in every set.

After having a string of highly successful EP’s back in 2012 on Komisch, being followed by a triple release on Peter Van Hoesen’s Time To Express the mysterious figure of SP-X disappeared as swiftly as he emerged.

In only a few releases SP-X managed to capture the attention of many with his striped back yet hyper effective take on techno. The fact that so little is known about the man behind the music only added to the story.

Now, after a long silence, the Brussels based artist will release his first EP in two years on Cleric’s newly launched “PROJEKTS” imprint. Next to that he will also start touring around the globe for the first time. With more releases scheduled for 2018 SP-X is stepping out of his own shadows, leaving mystery behind and focusing solely on the power of his music.

Slam drop their 2nd release of 2018 as the duo continue to develop their unique and hard-hitting sound with the Constructivism EP. Despite the pair’s heavy touring schedule, they consistently deliver ever more impressive releases each time, exploring the realms of dance floor orientated Techno.   Opening with Mellifluous, surging synths are propelled by tough kicks and driving percussive elements yet the whole track is tied together by deep and emotive pads. Pantera begins to take things up a notch. A seemingly more stripped back approach gives way to hypnotic rhythms and effect drum workouts. Paradox lifts things further still, building gradually through effective use of subtle FX and a very in your face track structure. Title track Constructivism a colossal EMB cut, road-tested by the pair at Berghain just two weeks ago, closes out the EP. A well crafted and constantly evolving sequence burns at the heart and drives this monster home with furious energy.
