Winter 2024 - An IDs and plates show case

There’s an easy-to-play game called werewolf where people put their heads down (the “villagers” go to “sleep”) and are tapped by people who furtively sneak about,  the “werewolves”. The werewolves know who the other werewolves are because they’re tapping the villagers while they sleep and can collaborate / corroborate as the game moves on during a discovery phase of the game when the players try to identify and trap the werewolves. It’s an interesting game because the villagers have no idea who the werewolves are and tend towards infighting and anarchy while the werewolves slyly help them destroy themselves. Almost every time the game is played, the villagers lose.

The game was invented by a Russian sociologist as part of their doctoral thesis on information asymmetry to prove that an informed minority will always have a massive sociological advantage over an uninformed majority.

Werewolf

I’ve been processing an alarming number of deaths in my social circles recently. In the past 2 years, 9 people, all younger than I am, died really abruptly.  The experience has left me thinking a lot about my own mortality and feeling uncomfortable having outlived these people I have known.  In a certain way, I am going through the same trauma that Vampires must go through, seeing people in their lives pass while they live on in their confined existence.

Applecross 2024 Performance

Little flip with lots of synth inclusions from the studio's Sequential OB-6 and Take-5. This started as a timer beat that ill.Gates wrote to demonstrate the sample flip recipe in 2021 while I was visiting him right after covid restrictions were raised and I was able to visit Canada. I've been revising it over the past couple years into what you hear.

"Hard times make strong men, strong men make easy times, easy times make weak men, weak men make hard times" - it's been a pretty tough quarter for me but I'm staying positive and resilient. This mix features some unfinished music and pretty experimental transitions (ha) that string together some feelings I had in the fall, a little self reminder to enjoy the process and take the bad with the good. Tough times behind and ahead but it's always darkest before the dawn.
