Topic: Mood at the beginning of the lockdown

Waiting for the daily press conferences with the latest figures and regulations. Feelings of standing still, paralysis, dependence, isolation, insecurity and also relaxation.

The idea was to record something with live instruments, immediately, not reflecting too much and not using a theoretical approach.
And in parallel to the sound experiments, I tried for the first time to convert Chinese cabbage into a Korean kimchi, using fermentation. This process suited the situation of waiting in the lockdown very well.

The 3rd collaboration of prolific cellist Sara Oswald and electronic musician Feldermelder evokes captivating sensations that oscillate between impending doom and hope. The albums’ sonic journey is highly immersive, transporting the listener from one cerebral landscape to another. The transformative nature of metallic elements being integrated in sustained orchestral tones weaves the sonic tapestry, resulting in a captivating experience for the listeners. The organic sounding — reminiscent of minerals’ timbres — brings a touch of brightness and a distinctive edge, while the orchestral harmonic structures lend a sense of grandeur and continuity. The origins of this music remain enigmatic, while the tracks of the album gradually unveil concealed aspects and the hidden truth.
One can step into a realm where melodies are reborn, as Sara Oswald’s cello spins tales and emotions burst forth. The two musicians merge together harmoniously, blending the acoustic and electronic worlds into a transcendent unity. This fusion of contrasting elements adds a unique and intriguing quality to the music. The cello’s warmth merges with pulsating electronic beats, creating a symphony of contrasts and sonic upheaval. Each composition is woven in intricate layers, combining electroacoustic architecture with delicate precision. A subtle balance of chaos and control permeates the music as it meanders through the labyrinth of the mind. Trained in baroque cello and advocating improvised music, Sara Oswald is the perfect match for sound artist and electronic musician Feldermelder. She plays solo, composes for film and theatre and collaborates with musicians like The Young Gods, Pascal Auberson, Sophie Hunger and Julian Sartorius. Feldermelder is a polymathic creative whose artistry spans composition, sound design, installation and code. He is co-founders of -OUS and part of Encor.studio, a collective of artists who specialise in creating immersive audio-visual installations. Through his work, he explores the idea of secrecy and its impact on our lives, using music and sound to create a thought-provoking and immersive experience for his audience.

Turin-based audiovisual collective SPIME.IM is thrilled to announce their highly anticipated album ‘Grey Line’. With ‘Grey Line’, SPIME.IM continue to carve out their distinct place among contemporary music innovators, balancing between - and deconstructing - various club genres. Each track is intimately connected to a specific gradation of grey, creating a unique musical journey through the nuances of existence. The album also features two exceptional guests: Stina Fors and Lorem. Stina Fors contributes her captivating vocals to the opening track ‘Crystal’, adding a concealed human element to the mix. It is a genuine human voice that assumes the role of an artificial one. Lorem, in ‘Pure’, performs the exact opposite. Imagination and reality, science and humanity: SPIME.IM weave their audiovisual tales from the ethereal textures that shape our worlds.
Their album «Exaland» synthesizes reality by combining human expression with technological potentialities in an infinitely changeable virtual world. The seven tracks are defined by razor-like sounds, crystal textures and digital overload, captured in those weightless seconds on a parabolic flight. Just as SPIME.IM’s live performances, this album is a temporarily linear journey through a narrative space shaped by psychedelic landscapes, synthetic colors, mutating objects and transient life-forms.

Bruce Sterling’s «spime» describes the possibility of tracing an object through space and time for the duration of its existence. By juxtaposing his concept with «I am», SPIME.IM are the being that is intertwined between the artificial and the natural.
Affirming digital reality, the Turin-based media art collective SPIME.IM explores the boundaries and possibilities of identity and perception in a world where virtual doppelgängers take on an all-encompassing position.

Turin-based media art collective SPIME.IM set out the corner points of where they are travelling: from 2050-style breathless machine funk and crumbling glitches, over hyper-charged synthesizers and fluorescent hardcore, to vast and forceful ambient: SPIME.IM’s leaping sound is crystal clear, balancinig human-scale harmonies with digital artefacts.

ZERO is both SPIME.IM’s starting point, and an extrapolation of their razor-sharp debut EXALAND: «When you start looking at something from the end you sometimes find yourself back at the beginning. Zero is at the beginning of Exaland, and it’s the beginning of the world we will create from now on».

By juxtaposing Bruce Sterling’s «spime» concept with «I am», SPIME.IM are the being that is intertwined between the artificial and the natural. Their works are human-machine interactions in sound, moving image and generative graphics. zIn their current audiovisual 360° live show «EXALAND», SPIME.IM interweave sound and image by letting sound parameters influence what manifest on-screen, and treating the camera perspective as an instrument. They have performed at festivals like L.E.V. (Madrid), Club to Club (Turin), Rhizom (Zurich) and Spring Attitude (Rome), among others.
