Leeds based label Outcross records has been consistently building on its reputation as a reliable outlet for floor filling house music for a while now, and here returns with another red-hot package. This one comes from Funky Fat with remixes from label boss Miguel Campbell, MAM and Matt Hughes.

Gui Santoro, Thiago Guimarães, Rafael Cury and Manu d’Alcântara are the names behind the Brazilian band FUNKY FAT that is taking the house scene by storm. Their sound has a strong crossover appeal that’s full of deep energy and funky grooves and has so far found support with tastemakers like Solomun, Jamie Jones and Lee Foss. To date the band have released on Hot Creations and got airplay all over the world as a result.

First single ‘Ride in the City’ is a gorgeous, sumptuous bit of house music with warm, creamy beats and synths and perfect neo-soul vocals. There’s a live feel to the percussion and twinkling keys that really strike at your heart. So does the bassline, a round, bulbous affair that is supple as it is sexual: this one is sure to be one of the hits of the summer.

The first remix comes from talented label boss Miguel Campbell. As well as turning out an album on Hot Creations, so has the man done an Essential Mix in recent times. He is at the very heart of the contemporary house scene and his remix proves why. Slowing things down to a sensual crawl there is more room to breath in this mix. The lulling kicks, heavenly pads and breathy vocals all sooth your soul and scream to be played at some pool party during the summer months thanks to their perfectly libidinous vibes.

Next up is the MAM remix – MAM is Miguel and fellow Leeds man Matt Hughes whose most recent works have been remixes of Climbers, Deadmau5 and Flight Facilities, as well as putting out releases via Wolf+Lamb, Future Classic, Hot Creations and Outcross itself. Together MAM up the disco ante with arp’ed synth lines, sprinkles of cosmic dust and lazy basslines that are delightfully uplifting. Buy this EP digitally and you will also get an exclusive remix from Hughes on his own. Outcross Records label head Miguel Campbell is proud to present new EP ‘Free Falling’, alongside talented vocalist and long-term collaborator Beccs Lott. Having previously joined forces on ‘Not That Kind of Girl’ on Hot Creations back in 2012, it’s clear to see that Miguel and Beccs Lott’s collaborative sound has not only tightened, but assumed a level of depth and maturity that only develops from a real understanding of each other as artists. Title-track ‘Free Falling’ is a case in point, fus-ing Miguel’s bright, soulful production work with Lott’s soothing vocal tones, while on ‘Run With Me’ - a track full of verve and colour - Miguel taps into his signature, disco-inspired brand of classic house.

After the success of his debut album ‘Back In Flight School’ on Hot Creations, Miguel Campbell has spent the last three years living in Ibiza, dividing his time between touring and the studio. Since returning to his hometown of Leeds last year, his production output has been prolific, with a slew of original tracks and remixes coming through his own Outcross Records imprint, the same label that will release forthcoming second artist album, ‘Night Drive Without You’ on 11th December in both double pack vinyl and digital formats.

Referencing the style of some of his early work and featuring a variety of both vocal and instrumental cuts, the disco-tinged layers of all 15 tracks make a firm nod towards the French touch scene of the late 90s and early 2000s, but despite the retro influences, Miguel’s skill here lies in creating a body of work that sounds both fresh and futuristic. Rumbling basslines and glossy, electro synths combine perfectly on the future-facing ‘Melody of Love’, while on final track ’Light and Darkness’ he demonstrates a similar balance; incorporating computerised vocal, underpinned by heavy bass licks - the airy vocal countered by the weight of the low end.

Vocal tracks on the album feature the talents of both Benjamin Diamond, who appeared on Stardust’s ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ and frequent collaborator Beccs Lott, who joined Miguel on ‘Not That Kind of Girl’ and more recently on his ‘Free Falling’ EP. ‘Run With Me’ in particular showcases the synergy between the pair on a track full of verve and bounce, while on ‘Interfunk Music’, he joins forces with Diamond to cosmic, spaced-out effect, with Diamond's hazy, hollowed-out tones adding a new dimension to the record.

A natural extension of ‘Back In Flight School’, ‘Night Drive Without You’ is built to take listeners on an abstract, heartfelt journey through a mix of house, funk, jazz and disco - a fluid collection of styles that are now a hallmark of Miguel Campbell records. Having kick-started the year spearheading Tribal Sessions parties across the UK and releasing new MAM album, ‘Garden of Eternal Summers’, Miguel Campbell has announced new solo LP, ‘Memoirs’, ahead of its release via Outcross Records on May 5th.

Through tracks like ‘Chemistry’, ‘Own Thing’ and ‘Everlasting’, Miguel explores a range of both sounds and crucially, emotions, that have defined his years in dance music. Also nodding to the classic French touch sound - one his production work has long been renowned for - on tracks like ‘Knightmare’, a raft of punchier, peak-time house grooves also punctuate ‘Memoirs’ - an album that listens like the most versatile of his three studio albums to date.

Taking one final twist is ‘Bad Tube’ - a track defined by its deeper and darker tones - before classically synth-driven roller ‘Stay Alive’ signs off on an LP awash with slick arrangements, classic sounds and most importantly, an undeniably personal feel.

Following on from his collaborative efforts on ‘Garden Of Eternal Summers’ LP alongside label boss Miguel Campbell, MAM recruit and long-serving DJ and producer Matt Hughes reveals his debut solo LP. ‘RedHotDutch’ is forthcoming via Outcross Records on 15th July 2016.

The LP’s leading track ‘Chrome Dice’ is the perfect set up for Matt’s synth-driven, electronic masterpiece; its up-tempo groove giving a definitive representation of what to expect for the next 12 tracks. Both ‘System Magic’ & ‘Rhythm Is A Given’ incorporate harder hitting percussion, giving way to more mellow rhythms such as ‘Radio’, and the edgier tones of ‘Groove’ – however each in turn resonate Matt’s in-depth knowledge of funk & soul throughout.

Signing off with the transcendent, uplifting release ‘Southern Funk’; this multi-dimensional album stands alone in its entirety, displaying a blend of futuristic and reminiscent 80’s electronica tones. Fusing sharp, electronic stabs, reverberating piano chords, along with melodic instrumentals, guitar-driven verses, stretched synths and experienced use of a vocoder; Matt Hughes unveils an album that portrays bespoke elements and unique qualities from start to finish.

‘RedHotDutch’ is forthcoming via the renowned label in the wake of 10 years of Outcross Records. In the decade since its launch it has established itself as one of the key components of UK house music, sharing parallels with orginial French Touch labels like Cryadmoure and Roulé. Based in Leeds, Outcross have released over 50 records from artists including fellow label-head Matt Hughes, Inland Knights, Iain O’Hare, Tboy, Funky Fat and Miguell Campbell himself, as well as MAM – a collaborative project between Miguel and Matt Hughes that has delivered three albums, including most recent LP, ‘Garden of Eternal Summers’.

Marking 10 years of growth and nurturing of his self acclaimed imprint, 2016 sees Miguel Campbell celebrate a decade of musical attributes across the renowned Outcross Records outlet.

In the wake of the label’s 10-year anniversary, 5 Outcross compilations are set for release over a 5-consecutive week period from September to October – each drawing in on the label’s standout records from over the years. 

First to be revealed will be ‘10 Years Of Outcross Records’. Volumes 1 & 2 pay homage to the fine array of talent that have released under the label in the past decade, with artists such as Iain O’hare, Miguel Puente & Inland Knights to name a few, selected as pioneers of Outcross Records across both compilations.

Pulling focus on the third release, 29th September marks the release of ‘10 Years Of Miguel Campbell’ and the head honcho’s remarkable self-achievements over the lengthy period. Featuring tracks from LP’s such as recent masterpiece ‘Memoirs’ – the compilation showcases Miguel’s ability to blend his French Touch sounds across a decade of incomparable trends.

The last 2 compilations set for release in October honour the work between Miguel’s collaborative partner Matt Hughes and their joint efforts on musical collective MAM. Titled ‘10 Years Of MAM’ & ‘10 Years Of Matt Hughes’, both in turn round off a plethora of Outcross Records material that has played a key part in the electronic music scene over the past 10 years.
