Gnork and Luv*Jam have been working together for more than 5-6 years now, doing lots of gigs, remixes, collaborative EPs, appearing on various compilations. They have always worked a little bit more than what they let us think, accumulating tons of unreleased gems. The time has come to reveal some hidden goodies and we're proud to be premiering one of these secret blorpers from their new EP 'Bonus Blorps', out on Crow Castle Cuts.

The original Blorp93 yellow vinyl surfaced in 2013 and was championed by the likes of RVDS, Bradley Zero, DVS1 and Wolf Music. Since this time, there have been a few secret cuts floating around here and there, some of which lots of people were 'demanding' to be pressed. Your prayers have been listened, those very secret Blorpers are here on one precise 12", and for starters you can listen to 'Sexxxx in Space' from Gnork's infamous Lost In Budapest Mixtape. Experienced Dutch producer Tom Ruijg rightly won praise for his first 12” as Tracey, Skyfall, which surfaced on Voyage Direct in early 2017. Combining elements seemingly inspired by vintage Detroit futurism, ‘90s ambient techno and his own love of colourful synthesizer melodies, the EP saw Tracey set out his stall in impressive fashion.

Here he returns to action with his most expansive outing yet, a four-track excursion that does a good job in not only showcasing the depth and variety of his influences, but also Ruijg’s ability to turn his hand to a variety of dancefloor-focused styles whilst retaining a colourful vibe all of his own.

Compare and contrast, for example, the two A-side cuts. While “Testarossa” is far-sighted and spacey, with Tracey wrapping intergalactic electronics and lilting synthesizer melodies around a darting synthesizer bassline and swinging, electro-influenced house drums, “Sidekick” is blissful and almost overwhelmingly melodious: all 16-bit new age motifs, head-in-the-clouds electronics and driving, locked-in machine drums.

The contrasts continue on the B-side, too. Many DJs may instinctively be drawn towards “Made My Love”, whose energy-packed groove (think vintage Chicago jack with a dollop of slick NYC house soul) is peppered with spacey chords, undulating electronic motifs and glacial melodies. Yet the track that follows, the wild and windy electro workout that is “Interceptor”, is every bit as potent when played over club sound systems. The track’s inherent hustle, seemingly the product of Ruijg’s darting synth stabs and feverish audio textures, is almost impossible to resist.

The tall build overlooked the city with an overbearing sense of presence. The people who walked upon the streets beneath the towering beast were undermined and overwhelmed by its existence. It cast a shadow into the core of their homes and their lives. Within the confines of the luxury suites and the sprawling penthouses the rich would dine and play, happy in the carefree sense of disregard which was afforded to them by the four walls. Out there on the streets it was tough, a stark contrast to another life. 

Shelter On Wax is set to release a new EP called "Oranienstrasse" on Lagaffe Tales. The Berlin based producer offers great promise and we were also startlingly impressed by the Gnork remix which is lush, elegant house music at its finest.
