Experimental voice artist, expert of Finnish traditional vocal music, jouhikko player, Doctor of music specialized in ancient runo-singing and holistic improvisation with voice, movement and speech 

Outi Pulkkinen is best known as an experimental voice artist and expert of traditional Finnish vocal music. Besides solo performances she workes with several bands, for example with a female a cappella group MeNaiset, which is specialized to Finno-Ugrian polyphonic song traditions and Pulkkinen-Räss-Sadovska, Finnish-Swiss-Ukrainian vocal trio with traditional and new composed music.

Pulkkinen´s work with improvisational and experimental vocal music has led her to collaborate also with contemporary dancers. Pulkkinen finished her artistic doctoral studies at Sibelius Academy Folk Music Department at 2014. In her doctoral concert series she reseached both the 2000 years old runo-song- and jouhikko traditions but also with holistic improvisation with voice, movement and speech. 

Pulkkinen has released three solo-cds: Myyty neito (Runo-songs of Ingrian women, 2010), And All the Paths Ended (Experimental soundscapes created by Outi Pulkkinen, human voice, 2011) and Lemminkäinen (Runo-singing and jouhikko music from Finland, Karelia and Ingria, 2016). 

She also teaches folk music, voice tehcnique and holistic improvisation at University of Arts Helsinki.
