Coming through with an almighty switch up from our usual UKG bits this week is the people’s favourite and master of all styles @etches828 📝 💜

Etch has provided an early 2000’s vinyl drum & bass mix that is so fuckin nostalgic, it took us on an emotional journey through young adolescent memories. Much like Etch, we all grew up on dnb and will always adore these sounds. The SOLITUDE crew are all junglists at heart yanno. This era of dnb up until about 2012 was the limewire sourced, background music to nuff gaming sessions with some sorta energy drink in hand… If that sounds familiar this one is for you. If not, check it anyway cos this selection and this calibre of artists is proper historical. 

Etch provided us with an insight to this one: “This mix is essentially my soundtrack to playing counter-strike online in 2004 with my mates, which may seem alarming because the tracks are fucking dirty slammers, but this along with 
everything that matched it’s intensity is what we banged. 

By the time we got fake ID’s and were out raving things got a bit more slick & romantic, but I always have hours of time for bash yer head in DnB and some borderline Breakcore like this.

I think with the UK music scene’s fetishization of everything that makes it feel like it has its own identity – it needs to look left and right and realise this was here the whole time. (Apologies to any clicks n pops from knackered/poorly looked after records, also I shall not take the whole blame, this era of DnB had some TERRIBLE presses, like wtf, shit is like a circle of paper)”

You can catch Etch at a bunch of shows this year (probably not music like this, but he’ll try slip a lil’ bit in if poss)

He’ll also be thwacking the stage with heroes & legends @2_bad_mice at @gottwood festival in June 

And lastly for the 🇦🇺 gang, he should be heading back to Australia at the 
end of this year. Which in his words “will be glorious because I played some of my funnest shows of the decade in that dusty ol’ love island”

As part of the process of exploring our relationship with this project, we put together a mix built around some own the concepts and inspirations behind Omura. Tunes that inspired us, in their original form, or reworked and reinterpreted to better reflect the way we channelled each other’s idea through the creative ecosystem that grew out of the album. 

The ecosystem represents a realm of pure creativity where ideas exist, on their own terms. They are there for anyone to discover but to do so, we need to step out of our usual patterns and spaces to find them. Omura was our guide to this realm and our guide once we had found it.

Divided into four sections, roughly corresponding to the different ecosystems Omura helped us to explore, the mix was initially performed live on the same mixing desk the album was built with in Hackney, before being bounced down and sent over to Bristol for further manipulation and processing. At each stage, further layers of texture and creative degradation was incorporated, mirroring the way we distorted and recontextualised each other’s musical ideas as we bounced files between our studios.

London based DJ who runs the best in new bass music, ranging from beats and halftime to 140 and jungle. Ila Brugal however is someone who has paved her own path and made a name for herself on her own terms. She's a part of the notorious Croydub gang  and plays at a number of events around the world for the underground collective. With a very eclectic musical taste and a deep bag of dubs, its no wonder this young woman is killing it wherever she goes. Ila Brugal embodies the sound of Italian bass music in London. The Fabric and Balamii resident has been carving out a name for herself in the UK scene, building a solid following while playing prolific parties worldwide. Her nimble blends and hefty selections pack more than a punch, and this is one of the reasons why the Italian artist remains respected – and loved – in the Uk bass scene. Whether she’s mixing in tandem with MCs like SGT Pokes, Pavan or Logan, or DJing as the sun goes down at Outlook festival in Croatia, Ila Brugal knows how to grip her dancefloor from the get-go.
