Pugilist back at it with this rocketing mix of modern club stuff of sorts n that. Like kind of bassy tech stuff ya know? Post-dubstep leaning more towards UK deep techno though, but with elements of other popular dance music genres like dnb and jungle, designed mainly to be listened to in a club / music festival / sound system environment kind of thing. Hard to explain but best to just go along to such events and check it out coz it gets real vibey once you get into it.

Emerald is a name that should be familiar to any Rinse FM devotee—she's been DJing on the UK dance music radio giant since 2014, and has just started a new flagship slot called The Dance Show on Friday nights. The Londoner is a consummate radio DJ, blending together genres and tempos with pitch-perfect mixing and an ear for hooks that makes each track stand out. (She calls herself "genre fluid.")

She's said so much in the lengthy, excellent interview below, so we can keep this part brief. Her RA Podcast combines newer favorites from Lauren Flax, Queer On Acid and Neil Landstrumm with older, recently acquired records from DJ Deeon (1994) and FSOM (1992). Pick a track from his extensive back catalogue and you’ll be sure to hear influences from Drum ’n’ Bass, Garage, Detroit, Chicago or Dubstep - the latter of which Martyn was probably known best for having been influential in the evolution of the “Post-Dubstep” sound in London that was so closely connected with institutions like Plastic People and FWD>.   

This broad collection of influences has created a sound that is distinctively, Martyn, and as an extension of that, a sound that is very much associated with his own label, 3024. It has also found it’s way on to the best labels across the electronic landscape, including Ninja Tune, Warp, Hyperdub, Brainfeeder and Ostgut Ton to name a few.  

His ability as a DJ runs parallel to his achievements as a producer, having secured his place in fabric history over 10 years ago with his contribution to our fabric CD series. A perfect snapshot of a place in time with music from Kode9, Actress, Zomby, Joy Orbison and lot’s more.
