"In the end of 1988 a small group of people had already started forming some kind of underground community. Some people had records, casettes and magazines from the Western World but it wasn't the popular metal of back then - it was grindcore, noisecore, crust, anarchopunk, hardcore. But this was just the beginning. There was a real race about who would manage to get more records and magazines from the scenes abroad. We were writing thousands of letters every month with the hope to get a reply and maybe even a fanzine, a record, or a casette. We started exchanging Vodka and Rakia for music with the punks from Western Europe and the US. Sometimes they just sent us stuff for free, because they realized that we still didn't have bands and zines here. I would like to thank all of these hardcore kids around the whole world, who supported the non-existing hardcore/punk scene in Bulgaria at that time. The Underground network from back then is the reason that the scene still exists in Bulgaria!" - a Bulgarian punk's account of the origins of the scene, published in issue 27 of Czech punk zine "Hluboká orba"
