In this episode we continued our discussion with Lucy about child development— very specifically, the importance of risky play, messy play, and outdoor play! I know I often want to keep my kids in a bubble whether it’s because I don’t want them to get hurt or I don’t want to clean up the inevitable mess that comes with allowing our children to explore. I’ve got to stop that and LET THEM DO THEIR WORK as children!

Indy Blue

In this episode we give a brief and silly introduction of what we are doing, our mission, and ourselves, and we explain the term "outpost of heaven." We also introduced our first "who's the weirdo" segment (which we do every episode where it's just Andrew and me), warned you that Satan is punk, and encouraged you that you can do hard things even if Satan is getting in your way. God loves you! You can do this!  

Show notes:

An outpost of heaven is "A fortified position established away from the main body of an army to protect it from attacks and allow that army to project force from a place of strength." It's an earthly home away from our heavenly home. It's a place of safety, peace, love, guidance, and protection from harmful worldly influences.

Did you catch the not so subtle pun in our title?!

Loren Marks is a well known specialist in his field of home and family science. With him, we talked all about the power of reading, and more specifically, reading TOGETHER as a family. This is a great episode to listen to whether you love reading or not (I used to HATE it!) Loren helps us understand how we can build that love together, and how we can cater to the reading needs of our spouses and children.

11. Reading “Binds” Us Together ft. BYU Professor Loren Marks

It's mid-November and guess what?
We set up our Christmas Tree and lights and basically Christmas has thrown up in our family room. BUT We love it and we are happy. We have received both compliments and criticism for being so enthusiastic about Christmas before Thanksgiving like it's some sort of rule or something that you shouldn't do it before Thanksgiving. 

Well here you have it folks. We go back and forth about when to decorate, our Christmas decorating styles, Christmas music, AND we announce the Operation Underground Railroad Gift of Freedom Christmas Shopping Event. It is in Springville, UT 10am-8pm.  

I, Emily, will be there selling my artwork so come check it out, buy some gifts from local vendors who are donating their products to the organization, while at the same time donating to the very best cause through your purchases!
