🗯🗯 How Did Corona change your artist life? 🗯🗯

Corona challenges all of us in different ways. Being locked down and realising that we are facing a fundamental crises economically and socially I got very depressed and scared. That’s why also my creativity got massively influenced by the crises. Like for most of us I suggest it took some time to adapt to the new situation. After leaving behind the depressing vibes I started again to work on my music and especially on my studio. I moved to Funkhaus and built a new space. I had enough time to built a really comfortable and professional studio and that’s why I’m more than happy now to have created Studio Balthasar where I offer Mixing and Production Services beside producing my own music. As artist I suffered but as sound engineer being part of the music production scene I got finally the chance to make the next step.

🗯🗯 Where did you record the mix and how did you feel? 🗯🗯

Of course I recorded the mix live at Studio Balthasar. Good acoustical treatment and loud speakers made it possible the get at least some vibes while playing. I felt happy to play a set again but on the other side you always start to remember how it was to play live in clubs. I miss it.

🗯🗯 What are your wishes for the time after Corona? 🗯🗯

I just hope that the corona crises won’t eliminate too many venues and artists of our scene. A lot of people are struggling and I’m sure that sooner or later we gonna see rising and established venues and artists fall and quit. I hope that we will be strong enough to maintain the ambitions and to stay motivated to continue influencing our electronic music scene with music and events in the future.

🗯🗯 Wie hat Corona dein Künstlerleben verändert? 🗯🗯

Mir fehlen definitiv die Tanzflächen der Clubs und Festivals ungemein. Ich hab es immer als großes Privileg gesehen, die Musik vor Menschen spielen zu dürfen, die man selbst am besten findet. Dieses Privileg weiß ich auf jeden Fall deutlich mehr wertzuschätzen.

Ich bin finanziell nicht komplett abhängig von der Musik, emotional aber auf jeden Fall. Dieser leichte Druck, wenn man die nächste Platte auswählt und es eigentlich der richtige Track für den richtigen Moment sein müsste. Wenn dann 5 Minuten später das Publikum die eigene Vorhersage bestätigt, ist das ein ziemlich überragendes Gefühl. Das vermisse ich ziemlich.

Ein paar Auftritte zwischen beiden Lockdowns sind zum Glück geblieben. Ob das nun im hiesigen Hotel oder in meinem Residentclub Luna ist, solange ein paar Leute inklusive mir einen guten Bar-Abend haben, reicht das erstmal aus.

🗯🗯 Wo hast du diesen Mix aufgenommen? Wie ging es dir dabei? 🗯🗯

Den Mix habe ich in meiner Wohnung in Kiel aufgenommen. Die Tage davor waren für mich etwas verwirrend aber durch den Mix habe ich vieles sortiert und danach ging es mir deutlich besser. Ich habe sowohl Vinyl als auch digitale Tracks gewählt und gegen Ende einen unreleased Track von der zweiten Bladehouse Compilation. Ein junger Mann beschreibt im Break ganz blumig, was viele der Hörer vielleicht vermissen ;)

🗯🗯 Was wünscht du dir für die Zeit nach oder mit Corona? 🗯🗯

Natürlich wünsche ich mir, dass Clubs/Festivals und alle anderen Kulturschaffenden wieder auf die Beine kommen und auch ich wieder meinen Teil dazu beitragen kann. Besonders wünsche ich mir das für den Luna Club, der seit 4 Jahren meine musikalische Heimat in Kiel ist und kurz vor Corona von drei jungen Freunden übernommen wurde. Außerdem wäre es schön, wenn noch mehr meiner Produktionen ihren Weg in die Sammlungen anderer Künstler finden. Ich bin zuversichtlich!

Für die heutige Lockdown-Unterhaltung ist die DJ-Frau und Produzentin Anja Zaube zuständig. 🗯🗯 Where did you record the mix and how did you feel? 🗯🗯

Recording this mix was quite special for me. Normally I did my recordings at the club where I used to work as a Nightmanager. As its closed due to Corona I had to think of another plan. So I locked myself in with a bunch of my favorite records on a friday night and did a vinyl only podcast (as I don’t have digital stuff at home). At the beginning it was not easy to get into the vibe as I am really missing the dancefloors but after some time it all flowed naturally.

🗯🗯 What are your wishes for the time after Corona? 🗯🗯

I hope the scene will be refreshed. The more I had time to think about everything the more I see the point that the scene was a bubble just about to burst anyway. It has lost its roots and what it is all about. Now I had the time to rethink where I musically came from and where or what I want to be in the future.

The most important thing for me is that no more clubs will have to close. Fingers crossed. I am really missing these special places.

So und hier kommt nun die vorletzte Folge in diesem Jahr von „We Are At Home“ in der Hoffnung das es im 2021 nicht mehr so lange geht mit dem Lockdowns und sowieso.

Heute freu ich mich ganz besonders hier ein Set von Elli Altenberger präsentieren zu dürfen. Für mich in 2020 die NewcomerInn überhaupt. Das erste mal so richtige wahrgenommen hab ich die Künstlerin aus Österreich mit ihrem Podcast für United We Stream. Ihr ganz besonderes Händchen für die House-Musik hat mich sofort ganz ganz schwer begeistert. I think for me Groningen was the beginning of my passion for electronic music in any category.
