C-Rock is Frankfurt native Christian Rindermann, a seasoned DJ and house music producer. At a young age C-Rock knew that his career choice would either be music-making or football (soccer) but music had a much bigger draw. "No endless running sessions and no stupid training routines!" says C-Rock. This certainly proved to be the right choice. Over his long and adventurous career C-Rock has moved from humble beginnings, approaching his first set of nightclub decks in 1989, to become one of the heads of the 90s Frankfurt house movement. C-Rock's musical preferences and influences are many, underlying an exposure to a wide variety of sounds in his early years. His DJ sets and productions owe a debt to the early work of Curtis Mantronik and Kraftwerk, mixed with Chicago house, disco and the strong influence of the European electronic body music movement. Despite the different influence streams C-Rock simply calls his style "house music" – plain and simple. C-Rock started hitting his stride in 1994 with his debut 12" on Playhouse and his almighty "Funky dope Trakk", accompanied by the formation of his own long-running imprints stir15 and lofi stereo. It was also during this period that C-Rock was able to hone his DJ'ing talent by throwing legendary events together with Ricardo Villalobos and Yannick (Needs). House- und techno nights with legends like Chez Damier, John Acquaviva, and Carl Craig led to residencies in clubs like Monza and Frankfurt's Box. In 1998 C-Rock released his debut album Track & Feel on his own stir15 label. Hailed as a milestone in the evolution of 'new school' German house music the album received high ratings in SPEX, Groove and de:bug magazine. This was followed with a growing international demand for C-Rock as a DJ as well as collaborations with the likes of Swayzak, Ricardo Villalobos, Sven Vaeth, and Chris Duckenfield (Swag). The new millenium saw the birth of a new project. Founded by fellow Frankfurt DJ Matthias Vogt their Motorcitysoul collaboration entered the new century with a loud bang (and more than a few kick drum booms). Albums and singles for INFRACom!, Simple UK and stir15 were universally acclaimed as well as more recent singles for renowned labels such as Freerange and Ibadan. Motorcitysoul also found time to collaborate with Chez Damier on a stir15 single under the moniker of Kids In The Streets. Besides his Motorcitysoul work C-Rock also joined forces with further house heroes in the likes of Brett Johnson, Sasse, Sascha Dive, Chasing Kurt and Neville Attree (aka Further). He was also one of the resident DJs of the famous megaclub Cocoonclub in Frankfurt where C-Rock shaped the musical appearance of Sven Vaeths club-spaceship for more than seven years until the club had to close. However C did not stop there and continued with his residency for the legendary "Pracht" in Frankfurt and the "Frankfurt Ist Bunt" events (together with Alex Azary, Mengi Zeleke and Sia Sanei). For todays Far blue concept, we have none other than Australian DJ and producer @microlotmusic.

 ‘Regeneration’ is heavily inspired by his recent trip to the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales. The Kosciusko National Park, which covers much of this alpine area, was devastated by severe bushfires in the summer of 2020. Thanks to the magic of the Australian bush, it is now starting to recover and regenerate. It’s not the same, but it is still a stunning, ever inspiring, wilderness area with ever changeable weather and diverse flora and fauna.  

Starting off with a new track, created specially for this mix, Microlot will take us on a deep, groovy, little moody, slightly nostalgic but hopeful journey

Not only are we celebrating the 20th anniversary of the label. This is the 150th episode of our podcast series! That's 12,5 years of mixes from the left side of the dancefloor. For our jubilee we welcome Michael Mayer from Cologne. He is not only an amazing DJ, but also our distribution boss at Kompakt. Here's what he says about his mix:

"One fine day there was a package on my desk, inside a 7" single with good mood music on yellow vinyl, wrapped in a hand painted good mood cover. It was Pingipung 01, Peter Presto's "Es war Sommer" and it was love at first sight. That this flash in the pan would turn into a 20-year (business) relationship is one of the most beautiful stories you can experience in the music business. Pingipung is a beacon of DIY culture, fed by deep devotion to impossible music. I am very happy to be able to present this musical bouquet for their anniversary."

We continue with the E P I S O D E S mix series and the second mix of the year is from none other than Elfenberg. I got to know Viktor from Elfenberg many years ago when I booked them as a duo for one of my parties. I had been a fan for a couple of years before I knew they were actually Swedish. Like so many others, I had heard their remix on "Sinere" by rBert and had seen them release songs on Stil Vor Talent. When I dug deeper, I realized that they were Swedes. Since then I have booked them many times and played together with them at the same parties. There are few acts, DJs and producers from Stockholm that I respect as much as Elfenberg. The sound they have delivered is always pushing forward and developing. 

Now the duo has become a solo act where Viktor Elfqvist stands alone as Elfenberg and it is from him that our second EPISODES mix comes. The mix feels like a modern interpretation of techno, house and acid from the 90s. The mix has bits in it reminiscent of songs from legends like Orbital, The Orb and Underworld. It is beautiful and dreamy but at the same time hard with a clear drive forward. It mixes sounds from the old and the new with songs and breaks perfect for sunrise sets at a forest rave or industrial basement parties. It feels new and fresh for a modern era that salutes the past. I'm in love with this mix and look forward to more parties with Viktor aka Elfenberg on the line up. Thank you my friend for this amazing mix. You are an alien among ordinary humans and i am very excited to follow you on your new solo journey.

Each time I perform at Audioriver Festival, I strive to give each of my mixes a unique character, different from the previous one. This time was no different as I was closing the Chill Stage on a Sunday morning, from three to five o'clock.

In this case, I set myself the goal of raising the bar. I focused mainly on tracks I hadn't showcased before. It often happens that certain tracks reside in my collections for months, even years, before I feel that the right moment has come to present them. It's precisely when the perfect opportunity arises that I can utilize those pieces that are perfectly matched to the given moment. Such a perfect opportunity arose during my latest performance, which began at night.

The first hour featured deep, almost hypnotic sounds, woven into psychedelic tunes. In the second half of my set, as the sun began to rise, the music gradually transformed into more house-oriented vibes. My sounds encompassed a wide spectrum, blending house elements and incorporating several dynamic breaks.

Als DJ und Organisator von einem Festival war und ist diese Situation besonders herausfordernd. Die ersten Monate waren hauptsächlich von Unsicherheiten und Ängsten geprägt. Die Kraft diente allein der Rettung des Freiland Festivals und die damit verbundenen neuen und unangenehmen Aufgaben. Das war energieraubend und das Ende stand monatelang offen. Vor allem fehlte mir rückblickend der “Festival-Sommer“. Neben dem Auflegen und Arbeiten, was auch meinen Lebensunterhalt sichert, fehlen mir die alljährlichen Begegnungen mit Menschen, die ich in den letzten 20 Jahren kennen lernen durfte.
