We got the almighty BusCrates 16-Bit Ensemble (1/3 of East Liberty Quarters) who laced us with a smooth-mellow modern/boogie funk jam, and we got the multi-talented Dr.MaD with a mean G-Funk neck-breaking slapper. After making waves a few years back via his Potatohead People project (with AstroLogical) and co-producing Illa J’s critically acclaimed self titled LP, Vancouver based playboy & producer Nick Wisdom steps out from behind the boards to deliver his first solo release for Bastard Jazz. 

The “Intimate Strangers” EP mines deep into Nick’s proclivities for disco, hip-hop, and house flavours. “Good Times” kicks things off with a snapping four on the floor, deep Rhodes chords and a rollicking bassline and vocals courtesy of Mr. Wisdom himself. “Feelin’ Alright” heads into outerspace disco territory with cosmic synths, walking bass, and sultry vocals courtesy of Reva Devito (HW&W, Kaytranada). On the flipside “Don’t Tell” brings in some 80s boogie vibes with downlow vocals from San Francisco’s K-Maxx, while “Rock The Cash Bar” is an instrumental party rocking hip-hop jam sounding like a modern day Showbiz & AG.

On the second number, Partly Cloudy, G-noF (@ganof) transforms a Chevy Impala into a jet ski with wings, sending us on a floating expedition through the skies above Montpellier, a refreshing day dream to say the least. It’s good to be alive, you think, as the strings, chords, and melody allow a certain sweet reflection. Partly Cloudy is funk that paints a picture with water colors.

Co-founder and member of the bands Due Dillagence and OJ KUSH as well as the label and collective Condensed Milk, Amin Payne aka Teymori presents his new tape with the same name: The G-Funk Tape.

Dedicated to G-Funk, a subgenre of Westcoast rap from the 1990s, The G-Funk Tape is definitely a collective project. Motivated by the wishes of his fellow dancers, it was at their request the artist decided to create the tape, thus paying tribute to the Hip-Hop movement.
Putting his heart into his work, he invites a horde of producers and international singers to join him on this adventure. Among them, 10tendo, OJ KUSH, Unda, Cazeaux O.S.L.O & Azriel, Billy Hoyle or First Touch.

A true return to the roots, we find all the favorite instruments of the genre: aerial synthesizers, generous basses, talk boxes and iconic samples; so many elements allowing us to change context, to finally find ourselves in the middle of the Californian 90’s .
