Biografia de Wice:
I was about three years old and my mother would carry me around the apartment while dancing. MTV was playing in the background and I just felt utterly at ease, ' says Wice about his first recollection of music. This feeling carried him through all of his life thus far. To explore the world through dancing, self-taught but permanently surrounded by music, became his credo. Beginning with breakdance and continuing with a long phase of Latin American ballroom dancing, the way to puberty was paved, further accompanied by the writing of lyrical texts and a rather extended hip-hop phase. Slowly but surely, an apparent love for beats, grooves, flows, and bass frequencies crystallized. After experiencing a techno club for the first time in 2007, Wice's fate was likely sealed: away from the lyrical, towards the metaphysical. The hours of ecstasy, the unfettered dancing, and the morning after felt like a soothing addiction that you didn't want to give way to, but rather acknowledge and never give up.

 

After the first transitions were played in 2008 and the first steps in music production were taken in 2009, an unprecedented love for sound, polyrhythm and frequency developed and relentlessly grew. More and more it turned out – retrospectively – that this sonic relationship was the perfect means for Wice to subjectively channel his innermost, to introspectively surrender to sound and texture, and to work towards the eventual moment at which he could say: 'Cool, now I finally have the technical means to externalize all that doesn't want to be said, merely through frequencies.' Driven by the insight that there always will be more steps to climb, Wice had to acknowledge that this kind of music will accompany him for a lifetime. Consequently, there is no turning back for Wice – there is only the quest to make the sonic scapes more beautiful, more accomplished and warmer, thus giving expression to the inner self.

 

Having finally decided to start his own label 'Steinlach' with his good friend Ingo, Wice's first solo record 'Hedonism' was released. Although achieving international success with this release had not been the intended goal, things fortunately turned out differently: Throughout 2017, the track 'Just Kiddin'' was played almost every weekend in well-known clubs and at reputable festivals around the world. With it, Wice even won a golden 'Raving Spoon' in the category 'The Perfect Tracks'. Further releases on Shlomi Aber's 'Be As One', Darko Essers/Tripeo's 'Wolfskuil', Deep'a and Biri's 'Black Crow' as well as on the in-house label Steinlach followed. The affiliated digital-only sublabel Weisse Elster was launched in 2021 with the EP 'Ape Layers'.

 

To Wice, of course, this is all beautiful icing on the cake. He certainly wouldn't want to miss any of it, but in his opinion, the joy of making music should always come first. As such, he considers his DJ sets to be long productions that are meant for the moment, whereas his productions are created to feel like short DJ sets destined to linger for eternity. For him, telling his story and thus providing an immersive experience of his inner life is paramount. Ever fueled by the mission to continually improve the craft, Wice considers music to be 'the best therapist he could have ever met.' Hence, he remains true to the motto: 'Do it for yourself or do it for no one.

Profile:
Rolando grew up in south west Detroit, a primarily Hispanic district of the city, he was heavily influenced by his Latin cultural rhythms and percussion. Inspired from an early age by his musician father, he pursued his own interest in music and became well known and respected within the Latino community. It was later when he heard Jeff Mills in 1985 as "The Wizard" that he discovered the innovative sounds of Techno. Through a mutual friend he was introduced to Mike Banks and joined the enigmatic Underground Resistance in 1994.

In 1999 'Jaguar' although not Rolando's first release on UR turned perceptions of Techno on their head, breaking into other genres of dance music and becoming an all time classic in the boxes of DJs such as Tenaglia, Carl Cox, Oakenfold, and Gilles Peterson. The track has a long legacy of reworking and lives on to this day many years later inspiring audiences from all genres.
In November 2004, Rolando left both Underground Resistance and his Los Hermanos project behind.
2014 saw Rolando  launch his own label R3 ( Roland Rocha Records) and has more or less  exclusively released his own music on his label since .
Rolando now a Dj for more than thirty –five years continues to work internationally as a Dj , producer and Remixer  with an eclectic clientele such as Marcel Dettman, Kraftwerk, D’Julz, Ben Sims, Skudge, A Sagittariun. Rolando continues to hold his residency 2006)  at Berlin club Berghain.
