Yes, it features sounds reminiscent of Vangelis. The harmony and melody are also pretty much inspired by his music. But first and foremost it was intended to recreate the way he worked.
He was the first person to treat the synthesizers as a means to create an orchestra, that would follow the flow of the composer – in the moment. He wasn't fond of overdubs, DAWs and all this meticulous work; he would rather sit down and play until he got what he wanted.
