Over The Moon is delighted to present our sophomore release, the debut release from a bright new talent on the downtempo scene.  Encounters, from Bay Area based multi-instrumentalist and producer Tyler Hovestadt, is a project that seeks to find balance between organic musicality and electronic exploration.  On 'A Path Beyond', Encounters gently evokes a sense of calm through uplifting tones and thoughtful progression, enveloping the listener in a cocoon of heart centered magic.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Tyler Hovestadt began his musical endeavor by experimenting and improvising with synthesizers as a part of garage jam sessions with his friends. After furthering his craft in sound design and arrangement, he went on to produce his own compositions and establish Encounters. Aiming to marry the digital and analog world, Encounters fuses organic, live-recorded percussion with meticulously constructed electronic soundscapes. 

ABOUT OVER THE MOON:

Over The Moon is the sister imprint of Behind The Sky Music, a record label created by established electronic producer Bluetech which is committed to releasing high quality limited edition vinyl presses of analog and modular synth music.  Formed during the pandemic lockdown, Over The Moon is a collaboration between label partners and longtime friends Evan Bartholomew (Bluetech) and Maggie Houtz (DJ Maggie). The two work closely on co-producing the weekly Twitch audiovisual show Holotropic Happy Hour as well as the various artists Matters of the Heart compilation in summer of 2021 for Behind the Sky. Maggie’s love for - and encyclopedic knowledge of - downtempo electronica is the guiding force in curating a catalog of gorgeous and emotional electronic music.   Over The Moon was born out of an inspiration to showcase more explicitly electronic, beat-driven music that sits just outside the parameters of the Berlin school ambient and analog synth-oriented releases of Behind The Sky.

“Wakeful” is the debut album by  @NicolasHaquin via  @Outtallectuals  label, featuring +20 collaborating musicians. Composed, refined, & meticulously crafted over 2 years, ‘Wakeful’ is a culmination of deeply personal emotions as they intertwine with the expression of collaborating artists who bring their instrumental, production or vocal expertise to the experience. 

The album explores the liminal states between wistful & cheerful, defeated & optimistic, focused & wandering, & isolated & connected. Sonically, the album’s genres span an eclectic yet continuous thread along organic downtempo, future garage, deep dubstep, lo-fi & jazzhop, nature-inspired ambient, IDM & world music. 

The album’s darker songs, namely the stomping High Dude collaboration, ‘Starless’, the psychedelia of ‘Smoke And Mirrors’ with Maynix & Chalky, & Middle Eastern experimental garage of ‘Dark Skis’ with Three Oscillators & Adam Maalouf, are balanced with more introspectively neutral tones of ‘Daydream’ with IOM, & onto the more triumphant & resolving tones of ‘Sequence’, ‘Through the Trap Door’ & ‘Glow’.

Moving through the seasons with this experimental psychedelic set I recorded live at the end of March 2019 on support for @desertdwellers in Tempe, AZ. 

I've been wanting to create a DJ set made up of three distinct parts — emulating the three-act structure of many stories — for a while now, and this is my first tried and true attempt at it. My intention was to keep the vibe flowing through three energeric crests whIle maIntaInIng movement from start to finish. I ended up digging deep into my collection to make this work, pulling some forgotten classics from over the years and mashing them up with more recent tracks from some of my friends, peers, and inspirers.

We are defining music that moves us the most and encompasses the possibilities of sound and creative sound design  - emotive, exquisite, uniquely groovy, and all the spaces between. Over the Moon invites you on an immersive journey of music exploration: one that touches your heart and tickles your brain.

In 2021, for DJ Maggie's birthday, Evan Bluetech came forward with a special idea: starting the label "Over the Moon." He recognized that Maggie had the perfect mix of skills for running a record label. Her keen sense for picking out gems in the downtempo genre, coupled with her vast network of artist relationships, made her an ideal choice. While Evan initially collaborated on the label's foundation, he's since stepped into an advisory role, providing insights while DJ Maggie takes the helm as the driving force behind Over the Moon. Bluetech's latest tracks, stemming from the forthcoming "Spacehop Chronicles Vol. 2" release, remain a key part of Over the Moon's lineup.
