We built this compilation as a living panorama of what DEEPNAS is breathing right now: deep dnb with its cinematic pull and weight, spring-loaded jump up that switches the body on before the mind, melodic liquid funk for moments when you want light without naivety, and neurodeep as the darker, emotionally charged line within our catalog.

Here, the genres don’t compete for space in the frame — they form a single, coherent story. Like walking one long night route: first air and depth, then acceleration, then warmth and memory, and once again a dense, focused stretch where every detail speaks not for form’s sake, but for feeling. This collection is about different states of the same scene and the same language — the language of bass, atmosphere, and honest emotion.

Vol. 1 is our way of showing scale without unnecessary noise or over-explaining. If you’ve been with us for a while, you’ll recognize the DEEPNAS character within the first minutes. For their forthcoming release, they’ve brought duo Volatile Cycle into the fold; the second edition of their ‘Volatile Cycle & Friends’ EP delivers four cut-throat anthems which are sure to put both Volatile Cycle and their featuring artists into the clubsphere’s forefront. Vowel comes through first with the effortlessly-tech driven record ‘Dispersed’, pulled forward by his crashing drum sequences and swathes of clattering percussion. Volatile Cycle show their eye for indentifying upcoming talent through ‘Dispersed’, one more reason why they’ve become such a defining part of the Lifestyle Music roster. Wingz joins Volatile Cycle for ‘Time’s Up’, with its moody levels of bass and creeping atmospherics. An apt track for the darker months, ‘Time’s Up’ brings a brooding production standard and an intimidating technicality – the type which has become a standard for Lifestyle and their back catalogue. 

Long-time collaborator Barbarix jumps on board alongside Volatile Cycle for ‘Trauma’, a hectic journey which utilises crunching LFOs and gradually builds segment after segment. Then finally, London-based Philth offers up ‘Nowhere’, merging his minimalist, rolling style amongst Volatile Cycle’s chaotic signature. With four brand new tracks about to be released on Lifestyle, given a platform by an imperative part of their team, the label is entering the latter half of 2018 as strong as ever... another reason why they’re becoming tastemakers within the underground world of drum & bass.

EA Review: Ternion Sound - Sound The Alarm [GB024]

Sound The Alarm opens with “5778.” Framed by a theatrical, vocally focused intro and break, the track drops with the drama of a rock opera. Its cinematic impact is deceptively simple, utilizing age-old tricks from the music theory and composition manual with minimal execution that would lend well to an instrumental cover (anybody up for the challenge?). Yet Ternion Sound writes from inside the mind of the dance floor: the repetition in “5778” plays to the meditative tradition of deep dubstep, yet contains enough clever variation to keep listeners on their toes. Plus, with its masterful tension and release, the tune seems designed for the explosive double drop - ensure its place as a staple in many DJ sets to come.
