"Ca fan al manelelor am urmărit, masochist, cum tot discursul ăsta îndreptat împotriva celor mai puțin educaţi a prins tot mai multă substanță socială: rockerii vroiau să le rupă capul maneliştilor, prin comentarii absolut odioase în subsolul pieselor de pe youtube, în care rasismul şi elitismul dedigerat, cumulate, au generat adevărate cockteil-uri molotov de ură (luaţi orice manea, la întâmplare). Radu Paraschivescu a devenit vânzător de bestseller-uri şi formator de opinie prin cărţi de pseudoeseuri ('Ghidul nesimțitului') în care imita stilul lui Andrei Plesu (şi retorica acră aferentă, dar cu o notă de angajare/sarcasm inabil în plus), şarjând în tuşe groase 'mitocanul' şi 'nesimţitul'. O mulţime de bloguri şi forumuri au preluat un articol de pop science din Gândul în care se spunea că inteligenţa poate fi influenţată de muzică – Mozart crește IQ-ul, în timp ce manelele, care merg pe stimuli primari, îl scad. ‘Manele’ a devenit sinonim cu prostie, ceea ce deja indică o glisare nepermisă de semnificaţii (...) In România, orice salt de status, orice proiect de emancipare personală trece printr-un stagiu intens de ură de sine, proiectată obligatoriu în afară, asupra entității misterioase numite cocalar".

În cadrul proiectului #newTogether, Forumul Cultural Austriac Bucureşti propune o serie de podcasturi realizate de jurnalistul Andrei Popov, la iniţiativa regizoarei Carmen-Lidia Vidu.
