Resists Truncate Remixes

Ultramajic goes for the jugular with the second chapter of its Metaphysix series after Aden and Creepy Autograph's first installment won over many new hearts in 2013 (particularly with the much-buzzed about "Whip") while keeping existing acolytes very happy.

Inspired in equal parts by legends of early Detroit music and arcane philosophical-religious concepts, these are savage drum tracks slimmed down to their meanest and leanest states - dance music at an elemental level, pure rhythmic bliss that would do past drum machine wizards like Plastikman very proud while sitting nicely alongside modern operations like Night Slugs' Club Constructions series. It's no surprise, then, that Night Slugs co-founder L-Vis 1990 makes an appearance here under his Dance System alias with the rugged "RZ1", effortlessly bridging the gap between forward UK styles and vintage Detroit soul. Matrixxman steps up to the plate in a big way with the hard drum rolls of "Simulation" and two different incarnations of the jacking, rimshot-crazy "Stop It". Creepy Autograph is back for his second appearance in the Metaphysix series with a ferocious remix of "Simulation" while Lando (formerly Lando Kal) rounds things out with "Loveplay", adding soulful vox and bouncing synths to the machinelike motif.

All in all this a lethal set of no-frills, drum machine-inspired workouts that demonstrate the "less is more" maxim with sterling results, revealing each artist to be a virtuoso of rhythm and Edgar to be a consummate curator. Complete with magickal cover art by Jimmy Edgar and Pilar Zeta reportedly made while traveling in Egypt, there is indeed much magic to be mesmerized by here.

The second part of the "Resist" release, is two storming Truncate remixes. Truncate forges through the blurred truths, manipulation and divisiveness with two cleardancefloor tactics: a thundering, roughly-hewn late night techno roll-out and a deeper, leaner approach forslightly earlier hours with a rising siren that acts as a call to arms for like minds to unify.

Truncate isnt alone with the multiple versions: in echoes of some of his most influential tracks Superfreak andDont Laugh, Josh has also provided two stripped-back acapella-style tracks to ensure the critical message isentwined beyond the track itself. The release kicks off with ‘Second State’, which ramps into top gear from the start, with its groove-heavy beats and intuitive percussive components working in perfect unison. ‘Interlurder’ is more of a low-slung roller with thumping drums and is certainly geared towards the underground heads. Both tracks highlight the pairs skillful production ability – Expect to hear these tracks a lot more this summer!

Avision makes his debut on Ben Sims' Hardgroove imprint with Culture, an EP comprising four memorable and kinetic techno cuts and including an edit from Sims himself. 

Having previously cropped up on Mark Broom's Beard Man imprint, Avision (real name Anthony Cardinale) has a knack for turning in gritty grooves that draw on earthy, discoid constructs and that's exactly what we have here with 'Culture'.

From the eponymous opener throughout, staccato stabs characterise and propel the tracks in different ways - whether via rolling, almost-there disco loops, gleefully abrasive call and response rhythms or, in the case of Sims' edit of 'Jux', nifty vocal sample interplay.

True to Hardgroove form, 'Culture' is a release crafted for the dancefloor and delivers with exacting precision.
