This is side one of the very first band I produced back in 1987. It was recorded and mixed at Spaceward Studios. I was a very youthful 19yrs old. I still like this first side.....as dumb and innocent as it is.

This is side one of the very first band I produced back in 1987. It was recorded and mixed at Spaceward Studios. Side two is much patchier than side one. The first track "Skin and Bones" was the single. It featured Stevie Breeze on keyboards. Steve was a wanna be white Prince soul boy who hated all the other Cambridge bands, such as The Bible. He hated the fact that when John Peel played Skin and Bone, it was his one and only time he was played on Radio One.

This is the lead track from the album "Bearfootin". I still like it a lot. Jack the Bear were a three piece......drums, and two guitars.....no bass. Steve Penn on banana fingers guitar, John Carter drumming, and the wonderful Graham fuller on fog horn vocals. Sounds like rock n roll to me.

This was one of my first sessions as a recording engineer at Spaceward studios. 1987 I'm guessing. This was an overnight session....a cheap b-side. First time recording Dave Larcombe.....who is quite an incredible drummer and person. And Boo and Tony were cool as well. Went on to record lots more with The Bible......but this is my favourite.

High Wide And Handsome

I recorded Dave and Barbara many times at Spaceward studios….or rather I was there while Dave did all the recording. He used to take weeks and weeks on a song.
A strange, peculiar and very obsessed record producer and musician was Dave. I quite liked him.....he was a gentle eccentric. And Barbara was a gorgeous hippy. 
This is the best thing we did: New Jerusalem took at least 35 days to record.
The most over the top prog rock epic I've had to record. But it's heart is in the right place. I learned a lot from Dave about recording techniques: a good education. 
The track sheet for New Jerusalem is in the pic. Five foot long. 24track tape recording pushed as far as technically and humanly possible.
