The first track from Ismay's debut EP Songs from a River, "River of Light (Through the Inland Empire)" was initially inspired by a flight down into Los Angeles at night, where cars on the roadways make their way through the valley and up the mountains, forming long streams of light reminiscent of rivers. While the L.A. River has been rendered nearly invisible, these rivers of light have illuminated the landscape. This song uses this symbolism to explore toxic love affairs, drawing connections between these man-made rivers that draw us in, and the deceptiveness of partners who entice us into a damaging relationship.

River of Light (Through the Inland Empire)

“One Last Time” (Feat. Kajo) is the debut single from the Endless Waltz. This song began at a house in North Hills in January of 2013 with a laptop, a cheap microphone, and a few guitar harmonics. Over the next 4 years, the song evolved across various bedrooms in Los Angeles featuring the collaborative synth layers of Julian Le (Jhene Aiko, Anderson Paak.), drums/production of Brandon Combs (Mark De Clive Lowe, Moonchild), and acoustic guitar of Juan A. Garica.  

Kajo’s lyrics were inspired by two performance art pieces by Marina Abramović and Ulay. “Lovers” was performed when the two travelled across the Great Wall of China in order to end their relationship. Fifteen years later, Ulay surprised Marina by sitting across from her during her piece “The Artist is Present.”
