Rumours of the infernal mechanism were rife amongst the population, that somewhere deep in the sublevels of the city it waited with the eternal patience that belongs only to machines. It was said that those people whom the system had broken, whose minds had snapped – ejecting them from the social architecture… were first incarcerated, analyzed and then taken to it to be erased completely. He was about to find out the truth of this, dragged from his metallic cell by those machine claws, his arms bound tightly across his chest and vocal chords paralyzed. He wanted to scream, terror engulfing him and winding around his vertebrae, giving birth to a black hole within the pit of his stomach... but all that emerged was a whimper of despair. It was registered by the synthetic mind and catalogued in its vast archive of variations of this moment - its casual analysis of this journey to death. The chamber was incomprehensibly vast… and it was there waiting, reaching with its threatening appendages from the shadows, its diabolical jaws enshrouded in the dull green light of a vast viewing screen displaying the symbol of the architect. The teeth started that relentless slicing, the very ground trembling through the power of its mighty workings, the mechanism to be his absolute obliteration… those claws pulling him inexorably towards the end as the viewscreen changed and flashes the word ‘goodbye’. The GRINDER completes its work. In the almost oblivious streets above, a faint rumble is felt – knowing, fearful looks are briefly exchanged before the citizens hurry on with their business.

Apex neuro and tech producer MAZTEK arrives with his first full EP on leading d&b label, EATBRAIN. Following up appearances on the label’s Tales of the Undead and Mirror Universe VA LP’s, the GRINDER EP sees Maztek deliver 4 tracks of high-grade dancefloor weaponry, enwrapped in the kind of heavy sonic technology that his fans have come to expect. From the tear-out but tightly wound collaboration with with June Miller in BLAFFER, to the grime-influenced and glitched vocals of GOOD QUESTION that comes in heavy with the evil bounce of its bass – the EP runs a diverse and unique flex. Title-track GRINDER delivers an appropriately punishing assault, packed with sinister sound design and brooding, dynamic riff, whilst TANGLE delivers an edgy and lightly percussive shuffle to accompany its powerful bass. This is both an artist and a label at their best, delivering an overwhelmingly powerful artefact for the dance.

​Kiwi native Trei last made waves on Viper Recordings earlier this year with the release of ‘Rebels’ featuring fellow New Zealander Tali, met with critical acclaim worldwide alongside previous Viper singles ‘Forces’ and ‘Tonto’ featuring the Upbeats. Now, the eclectic producer returns to the mighty Viper with two new tracks, ‘Fools Rush’ and ‘The Bends'. 

The single kicks off with 'Fools Rush' a call to a different kind of adventure, one with a sense of imminent danger throughout and an altogether sinister atmosphere. An ominous sample taken from The Addams Family sets the scene before the drop, an adrenaline fuelled nightmare of high-energy dancefloor madness. 

‘The Bends’ is a rather minimalistic track, each note carrying a formidable groove of its own. With a futuristic Wild West vibe created from the start, the track stands out for both its stimulating sound design and mastery in arrangement, giving each sound room to breathe. An elegant bridge furthers the exhilarating feel of the tune.

Proving once again why Trei is a welcome addition to the growing Viper family who so deservedly caught Futurebound’s eye, these two tracks highlight the impressive diversity within the sound Trei is so diligently forging for himself. Each track telling a different story but both equally suited for dancefloors the world over.

Celebrating two decades in business, Technique Recordings have opened up the vaults and handed out the stems of some of their biggest tunes to some of the sickest producers around. We had warnings of what was to come with DC Breaks' remix of Tantrum Desire's 'Airhead' and Glitch City's take on Drumsound & Bassline Smith's 'Skumbag', and cuts from this album have been shelling down raves and festivals all summer.

Now, here's what we've been waiting for.

This album, spanning the full twenty years of Technique history, showcases the real strength and depth of the catalogue. Anthems like Crissy Criss & Youngman's 'Kick Snare', Drumsound & Bassline Smith's 'Crossfire' and Tantrum Desire's 'Reach' all get reconfigured to take heads off all over again. The bossmen have even resurrected their Future Tech moniker to give a 2019 upgrade to TECH 001.

And the array of remixers recruited take us all the way across the spectrum of contemporary drum 'n' bass. The likes of Bladerunner and Marky rub shoulders with AMC and The Prototypes...this album is as musically multi-faceted as it is star-studded. 10 years of Rampage has given us a fair number of anthems, all by the hands of Murdock and Doctrine. Both of them have had a stellar year with Murdock’s debut full length album dropping, with BBC Radio1 support from Annie Mac, Mistajam, Danny Byrd, DJ Target and Rene LaVive, and Doctrine hit the UK airwaves alongside DJ Fresh for his come-back track ‘Control’.

To celebrate a decade of Rampage, we invited some of our trusted allies to put their own spin on the anthems of the past years. Drumsound & Bassline Smith joined forces with Tantrum Desire to smash out “Fire”, Current Value adds his trademark flavour to “Acid Howl”, and Upgrade goes to town on “Arena”. Three very different takes on the Rampage Anthem sound, and all three are guaranteed to smash every dance they hit.

Murdock & Doctrine - Fire (Drumsound & Bassline Smith Vs Tantrum Desire Remix)

'Muskoka' by Bensley set out to define him as an artist who uses his talent to explore the full scope of what electronic music has to offer. Never limiting himself to one tempo or prototype, he showed fans throughout 2019 that his development on the Ram platform has seen his artistry grow without restrictions. Taken from the LP, ‘Secrets’ ft. Sarah Carmosino highlights Bensley’s same direction for this year, pinpointed through its assembled looseness and laid-back rhythms, whilst Sarah’s vocals lay seamless against its melodies.

US artist Flite presents the single’s reverse, producing a turbulent drum & bass twist with gritty bass breakdowns. Hand selecting Flite for the rework, Bensley returns on Ram whilst maintaining his imaginative consistency on the label.
