Lead singer Jana Hjalgrimsdottir describes the song as: “Calling it Out is about facing what is pulling you down in life, and then having the courage to cut free from it, even though it can be difficult and painful”

The music is exploring the tension between dreams and desperation, and draws a line to early goth and post punk, but is also forward looking. Fremmand is fronted by the charismatic lead singer Jana Hjalgrimsdóttir, who with her all-in attitude is like the volcano Vesuvius erupting.

Abismos

With one of the most exhilarating and rounded debut EPs of the year in ‘ Microcosmic Things’ under their belts, Leeds quintet Eades add wonky, slacker-indebted new tune ‘Forgive My Mind’ to their armoury – out via Bam Bam Records on November 11th.

Following anthemic proto-punk stirrer ‘I Want More’ it reveals yet another side to the band, once again showcasing their discerning magpie approach to the guitar music cannon. Melding noise -rock elements and the infectious noodling of Pavement and Sonic Youth with Parquet Courts style interplay between vocals and guitar, there’s a lightness and welcoming in the obvious chemistry between each band member.

As ever, these garage-rock, post-punk and New Wave touchstones are distilled into a unique, forward-looking sound by their self-production – the final result a distinctly modern sound from this coalescence of genres. They’ve also opened up their basement studio to other local acts, with the view to creating a community of likeminded artists helping each other navigate a tricky time for the scene.

Arriving close to fully-formed in intention across sound and message, their breezy self -confidence, born of time spent cutting their teeth around a fertile scene in Leeds, has started turning heads across the board, Steve Lamacq has been a big champion at BBC 6 Music and at press FADER, NME, DIY, So Young Magazine, KCRW, The Line of Best Fit, DORK Magazine and more lining up to call themselves fans, and predicting big things.

‘Forgive My Mind ’is the new single from Eades - out on Now via the bands own label Bam Bam Records.
