Purple Velvet is Chris James and Lee Dearn, two purveyors of deep and sensuous house music since forming in late 2011. Having gotten to know each other at various late night music sessions, the pair have increasingly honed their own house sound that’s as suited to the dark confines of a club as it is the sunnier vibes of an outdoor terrace. Examples to date can be found on the ever on-point Berlin label, Exploited, in the form of their Flashways EP. Both tracks pair fresh and radiant synth work with loose beats and plenty of colourful details, and have garnered support from the likes of Huxley, Til Von Sein and Apollonia’s Dyed Soundorom for their dance floor dynamics. The pair have also contributed tracks to compilations on Exploited and Dirt Crew, and releases on Noir, Dirt Crew and Local Talk. With their follow-up 'Solstice' (including a remix by Bristol disco pets Behling & Simpson) on Exploited,  Purple Velvet are well on their way to emerging as the breakthrough stars of 2013.

This is the first EP taken from Detroit Swindle’s upcoming debut album “Boxed Out” to be released on the 24th of March 2014 on Dirt Crew Recordings.

To heaten up the anticipation on the long awaited debut album by Amsterdam’s finest Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets we give you three tracks from the album as a little teaser to what is to come on the full length. First up is the title track “Huh, What!” a true Detroit Swindle banger that takes us back to pumping Chicago old school house times. Much like their last EP on Dirt Crew that included “John Doe” this new tune will (and we don’t like this expression but can’t think of another way to explain the sheer brutal power of this track) “destroy” the dancefloors!

If that wasn’t enough bass in your face we got Leon Vynehall and A1 Bassline under their “Laszlo Dancehall” moniker to rip ‘Huh, What!’ to shreds, resulting in a dark, pounding, straight up jackin’ techno groove. Very raw and edgy, tweaking the original’s key elements perfectly to join the dark groove going on. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

The B-Side takes us back to that sweet and deep Detroit Swindle house groove. “The Fat Rat” is much in the style of their last “The Make Up to Break Up” release on their own “Heist” imprint. A groovy percussive and soulful stabby house excursion, Amsterdam to Detroit via New York and back!

“Monkey Wrench”, the last track on this EP, is just beautiful and quite possibly one of the highlight down tempo house tracks of the Album. It has this slow groove we all love from the Swindle’s and a combo between the warm sound of the rhodes and the electronic feel of the arpy bass that really makes you love the track more and more each time you play it.

Tartelet's latest comes from Glenn Astro. Currently residing in Essen, he's spent a bit more than half his life DJing and producing, first in the realm of hip-hop and more recently with an ear toward dance music. After his first releases in this style in 2011 and 2012, Glenn really went for it in 2013 with a trio of EPs that showed hip-hop's soul and house music's drive are in no way mutually exclusive. This 26-year-old may embrace the latter these days, but when you close your eyes and let his gritty low-end do its dirty work, you'll hear plenty of the former's bump still kicking around in there.

“I’ve sat on this track for a long time and was hesitant to release it because it’s a bit different, and not exactly DJ friendly. This is the first track I’ve released of a more cinematic nature, and I’m super excited to finally have it free into the world, despite the initial reluctance to do so! I hope this track can paint a picture of the direction I'm heading, and the world I'm trying to create through music.”
