Despite the hot summer and the arid waterways all over the world, the FUTURΣWAVES return to flow with Russian-born DJ, producer, and relentless studio head Tripmastaz. Four years in the making, Duct Tape Project is the new brainchild of Tripmastaz in the realms of trip-hop and downtempo. And it’s a project that makes perfect sense to anyone familiar with Andrei’s background (making Hip-Hop beats since his teenage years), musical capabilities and decades-long experience. Duct Tape Project joins Andrei with a troupe of stellar musicians not only from many different corners of the world but also from acutely distinct genres – Guti, Argenis Brito, Mad Dim, Denis Kaznacheev, Krussia, Damien Vandesande of DOP, Sarkis Ricci, Andrey Orenstein, and vocals by Inga.

Featuring all sorts of live instruments, drum machines, synthesizers and modular systems, Duct Tape Project brings forward a complex work brimming with musicality, creating a vibrant and fascinating ecosystem with enough sonic texture to leave one captivated, enraptured and lost at the edge of words. 

This mix was recorded live at Eshk Record Store and Hair Saloon in Berlin.

The double LP is available on the main run of regular black vinyl and two limited editions of 30 copies on splatter vinyl and blue marble vinyl. Exquisitely mastered at Tripmastering and distributed worldwide by another.round, the new sub-division of BRT Distribution.

Andrei ‘Tripmastaz’ has been a busy man over the past few years. Aside from relocating to Berlin, he’s also been busy in the studio with Ricardo Villalobos, launching his own Respect the Craft label and even his own mastering service. So we were pleasantly surprised that he managed to found time in his busy schedule to serve up a killer mix for us.

For the 30th entry of Schmaus’ podcast series, give a warm welcome to Japanese artist Kai (aka Kaitaro Nakajima). Born in 1977 in Tokyo, Kai discovered DJing at the age of 17, spinning Hip-Hop records. It is in 2003 that the artist got into the Minimal House and Techno sphere and been actively producing since then.
His first release came circa 2005 on Sud Electronic, which led to several more on Alphahouse, Level Records and Enliven Music. Kai moved to Berlin in 2007, where he performed live for years to gain experience.
In the past decade, the artist released on major labels such as MERKUR Schallplatten, Little Helpers and Someone Else. Still based in Berlin today, Kaitaro focuses on live acts and music production.
In the opening of the live act, a solid groove comes in with complex tones and tasty drums. Aquatic organic textures followed by grand piano and strings parts create a contrast between acoustic instruments and the acousmatic production.
The mood shifts to a dreamy pad with trippy vocals, accented with sharp hi-hats, and switch again to minimalistic passages. These abstract moments display a clever drum programming, wet yet subtle FX use and tonal textures.
The artist juggles with psychedelic chord progressions, rich details and glitches in a seamless storytelling. The listener is trapped in a special bubble of sound with out of this world atmosphere.
Kai takes is drum patterns to another level with congas and bongos solos, to go back to serene and deep vibrations. We encounter old school timeless chords, dubby elements, and a super efficient sub bass all along the performance.
This set is a demonstration of movement in music, A-game sound design and unfolding narrative, which will leave the listener stunned on a final abstract note.

Audio Werner introduces us to his slick minimal sound in the latest vinyl-only GH Podcast. Lucky us, since for the next two hours we’ll get teleported on the wooden dancefloor of Club der Visionaere, at the traditional Tune In residency monthly party on May 17th 2017 - that’s 3 years back in time. 

Andreas - the man behind Audio Werner project - did a technical processing to elevate the sound quality, while also adding some small touches - a sign of a selector dedicated to acquiring the level of quality expected. The podcast is rather abstract than housy and it makes up some reference to his roots linked to Perlon, which has also inspired and influenced a lot of Romanian producers along the way.
Judging by the meandering yet crowd-pleasing bassline, GH013 is a builder rather than an attention-grabber, a deep effort that’s sure to receive plenty of play from fans of groovier minimised sounds.
