the clashes "LONDON CALLING" with a deft handed rewrite so as to make it available for use as a welcoming song for the 2012 london olympics. i know joe strummer will be rolling in his grave, and yet i am unwilling to let some one with far worse intentions do it worse, so i did it. myself,my friend marc d. his friend manny and the kids from the songwriting classes i teach. done by sending files across the country in emails to get it right.

ever get overwhelmed by mother nature? ever have it come so close to crashing down on you that you must do what you must to put it back into the world in a different way? i did as i walked out into a wind storm of freezing weather and had large branches falling all around i hit the ground and found the words to say just what had happened, it was beautiful, sad and loud, i think i have all of that here.

FEBRUARY

A song I had kicking around a hard drive that when a friend of mine was getting married I knew I had to finish writing the song with him and his lady in mind, so to all the world this is a gift from me to them and their life together.


Can't Believe Your Mine

David Bowie singing about his imaginary guitar player that might not have been so imaginary. one of my old bands, The Dirtbags did a killer version on our first album. not quite up to the Bauhaus version, but it was a good effort, and fun to play with the boys in that band. I revived it in rock camp for my students, and have had it languishing in my hard drive for the past two years before i broke it out, fixed the drum issues and put a decent mix onto a killer tune, it rocks, its big, and it sounds like we played it in front of a Live audience. play loud.

Ziggy Stardust

California, What can one say when someone misses a place like a lover, it is on my mind like a tattoo, like a melody that makes me well, like the golden thread that runs through the sweater of my universe. 
  As I settled into my rental car just outside of the airport in Austin Texas, going to south by southwest to see some films, hear some music, marvel in the best part of Texas, I saw a road sign for highway 10, and being from LA, with that road running through it and having that sign burned into me as part of a memory, reminded me of some of my life's bests. 
   So there it was, as I mumbled to myself, "there is a road outside and it leads to California" and of course the song writer in me heard that, and the drive to the hotel became a scramble to put down any and all thoughts of where that thought was carrying me. and so it was and now is this country in a Rolling Stones kind of way, of course sung in my voice so there is little for me to hide behind with my kind of nekked, and barely fixed simple performance.
  Lots of thanks to my old and very good buddy Marc D. as it was his studio I recorded this in and has him playing all over it. its me on the janky drums, so it wiggles around just the way I like it. when I fix all the other songs with him, they will sound this good and you will have to buy the record, where and from whom, i have no idea.....turn it up!
